It was a real pleasure to welcome Emma Roddick MSP to Highlands Psychoanalytic Collective last week (along with her very cute puppy 🐾) for a thoughtful conversation about mental health in the Highlands.

We spoke about the realities we're seeing every day through our Youth Psychotherapy Hubs and our work alongside families, GPs, schools and other frontline services. We talked about the pressures facing services, the importance of early intervention, the experiences of young people and parents trying to find help, and the need for joined-up, compassionate services across the Highlands.

We're always grateful when elected representatives take the time to listen to the experiences of frontline clinicians and, most importantly, the voices of the young people and families we work alongside.
Thank you, Emma (and pup!) for coming to visit us. We look forward to continuing the conversation about how we can build a mental health system that truly meets the needs of Highland communities.

One of our many aims is to provide early intervention, youth friendly mental health support and psychotherapy - this is what young people we have supported say about our service.

We are endlessly grateful for their feedback, and we strive to continue providing high-quality care. 🫂

We have a range of aims we are prioritising for our Highland communities. These are to:

Provide Clinical Services:
Offer clinical psychoanalysis and applied psychoanalytic work for children, young people, and adults.

Promote Psychoanalytic Thinking:
Champion psychoanalytic ideas throughout the Highlands — attentive to the region’s culture, history and geography.

Create Opportunities for Learning:
Develop events, training, seminars and community spaces for sharing psychoanalytic thought and practice.

Support Research:
Encourage psychoanalytic research, scholarship, and the deepening of understanding.

Collaborate Across Sectors:
Work openly with the NHS, third-sector organisations, and practitioners in allied disciplines.

Engage with Environment and Place:
Recognise the importance of landscape, ecology, and the realities of the climate crisis in shaping emotional life.

Work Thoughtfully with Diversity:
Approach issues of race, class, culture, and difference with care and reflection, particularly as they arise within Highland contexts.

As a small charity, we would welcome support from the local community to help us reach these goals, to help us support more people across the Highlands in different ways. 🫶🏻💚
