In an industry which can be emotionally challenging and time consuming, it’s important to recognise when we need a bit of down time. I don’t look on my role as a job, it’s a way of life and sometimes it’s hard to find the time to relax and unwind.
So today, I’m grabbing a half hour in the sunshine before I set off on my travels to visit a family then take a service.
Got to grab the sunshine while we get it! ☀️ 🌻

It’s a day to celebrate the dads, step-dads, grandads and daddies-to-be but it’s also a day to remember those special men in our lives who are no longer here. 💙💙💙

After a somewhat busy 5 months with all sorts happening, I’m taking a few days of rest, relaxation and decompression while my mum and I enjoy a little caravan trip. Weather = rain! But it doesn’t matter, we’ve got our Scrabble, books and maybe a wee bottle of wine 🌻

One of the many special parts of my role is having the opportunity to spend time with someone before they pass, and it’s a true privilege to hear their story straight from their hearts.
I’ve mentioned previously about forging strong bonds with the family of those who have passed, and having spent time with someone who is on end of life care and getting to know that person while gaining their trust and forging a bond brings an added emotion when I hear of their passing.

I’ll never forget those times, sitting by their bedside, or in their home. I’ll always remember the sound of their voice, but most of all their courage to speak about the inevitable.

It’s a truly humbling and touching experience.

It’s been a busy week, visiting families for upcoming services and writing their loved ones tributes.
I will never get used to the humbling feeling of these families welcoming me in to their home then sharing their loved one and their life with me.
I’m met with many warm, friendly and lovely people who are going through one of the worst times of their life but they show interest in my role, my life and it doesn’t take long for me to feel like I’ve become part of their family.
Some may say that I shouldn’t get attached, but that’s what forms the bond where people feel comfortable to put their trust in me.
I absolutely “love” this role. Of course, it’s hard at times, it’s not 9-5 and it’s emotional but I have my own friends and family to distract me from that and I count myself very lucky to have such a great, loving network. 🌻
