One thing I’ve learned over 20+ years working with bodies is this:
You cannot separate the mind from the body.
Last week, one of my clients came in for treatment with a persistent dry cough. During the session I imitatively asked her…
“What is it you’re wanting to get off your chest?”
She looked at me strangely… then her eyes filled with tears.
It was coming up to the anniversary of her husband passing — the love of her life.
As she started to cry, she stopped herself and said:
“It’s stupid. It was 40 years ago.”
But grief doesn’t work on a timeline.
When you truly love someone, there will always be moments you miss them more deeply than others.
That’s not weakness.
That’s human.
We spoke, she allowed herself a moment to release what she’d been holding onto, and let go of some of the self-criticism she’d been carrying around it.
So freeing 💜
So many of us have been conditioned to hold everything together.
To believe crying is weakness.
To stay strong.
To push uncomfortable feelings down.
The truth is, none of us want to feel sadness or sit with uncomfortable emotions.
But suppression creates stress within the body.
And chronic stress affects the nervous system, breathing patterns, muscle tension, inflammation, immune function and more.
So what you don’t release…
the body still carries.
Healing can begin when we stop resisting what we feel, allow it to move through us, and give ourselves permission to release 🤍
