The PT Studio is a NEW personal training studio to be opened in Orkney, located in the Anchor buildings, Kirkwall. Clients of The PT Studio will receive sole use of the studio through private training which can range from 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, small group sessions and private hire at an hourly rate. To maintain the privacy and discretion of your session The PT Studio will only be available on a booking b

asis and not open as a public gym. The PT Studio is fully equipped for your convenience with a WC, shower and changing facility at no extra cost. There is a wide range of equipment in The PT Studio to suit every clients needs. 1-2 pieces of cardiovascular machines along with traditional weight training equipment ranging from a squat rack with Olympic lifting kit, dumbells from 2.5kg - 25kg, medicine balls, and a double pully cable system (2 x 91kg stacks). Also keeping up to date with modern day training methods The PT Studio also offers a suspension trainer, battle ropes, kettlebells and core stability equipment catering for all clients desired goals and needs. ATHX Glasgow 2026 🏁

First time competing in the ATHX Women’s Pros division - a challenge I set myself going into my 40+ years!! My goal was to see what was possible sticking to my usual 3-4 training sessions per week and designed my training plan accordingly. Here’s how I got on.

Strength Zone 1️⃣
Strict Shoulder Press 1 RM (rep max)
47.5kg ✅ 50kg ✅ PB 🎉

Back Squat 3 RM
105kg ✅ 113kg ❌ (silver lining happy with my technical ability to ditch the bar 🤪)

Deadlift 5 RM
130kg ✅ 135kg ✅ PB 🎉

Total weight = 290kg
Placed 5th / 12 overall

Endurance Zone 2️⃣
1KM Run into 1KM Row then back to 1KM Run continuous until 22min is complete.

🏃‍♀️ Run total distance = 2.081KM
🚣‍♀️ Row total distance = 2.014KM
Total = 4.095KM
Placed 10th / 12 Overall.

My weakest zone, but one that’s improving. Happy with my pacing, strong on the row, and room to improve on the runs.

Metcon Zone 3️⃣
Complete Metcon within 25min time cap.

1. 30cal Ski Erg
2. 30 reps Ground to Over Head Duel DBs 15kg in each hand
3. 30m Sandbag carry 40kg
4. 30 reps Box jump overs 24”
5. 30m 15kg each side Duel DB Front Rack lunges
6. 30m Broad Jump Burpess
7. 30cal Ski Erg

Total Time = 14.44 ✅ PB 🎉
Placed 5th / 12th Overall

To finish in full send at such a high intensity is mostly a mental game for me. Elizabeth thought I was going to die & I thought there was a possibility 😆 but head down all the way and got the job done.

Overall Result 🏆

6th / 12 in the ATHX Women’s Pros division

Pretty cool seeing my name on the leaderboard with Top UK CrossFit athlete Jennifer Muir 😎

⭐ Stats & Highlights:
▪️ Oldest female in the Women’s Pros field (everyone else was 34 or younger! 😂)
▪️ Currently 3rd overall in my age category across this year’s ATHX Pro events worldwide 🌍
▪️ 1st for Squat & Deadlift 🔥
▪️ 2nd for Shoulder Press 💪

⭐ It been an amazing weekend with fab company. I would just like to give a huge shout out to Elizabeth 🥰 she’s always 100% behind me and supportive with all events I do. Head coach, cheer leader, social media, calmer downer she’s got me covered!! 🤪

Solid performance and with only 6 minutes each lift between the two of them they were organised as a team, loaded and switched the bar height quickly.

Total weight = 630kg
Placed 20/82 overall

Endurance Zone 2️⃣

Switch once athlete A completes distance continue for 22mins

🏃🏼 Run total distance = 3.304 Km

Placed 63/ 82 overall

To have a 10min recovery and attack the Endurance section is no mean feat. Glutes on fire and quads burning they stayed focused in this zone and got the job done.
Coming 2nd in their age group for this Zone 🔥

Metcon Zone 3️⃣
For Time to complete as a pair Max time allowed 25mins

1. 60cal Ski Erg
2. 60 reps Ground to Over Head (1x 12.5kg R, 1x 20kg C)
3. 60m Sandbag carry (30kg R & 50kg C)
4. 60 reps Box jump overs (20” box)
5. 60m 12.5kg each side DB lunges

Total Time = 17min 59sec
Placed 63 / 82 Overall

Some stand out stats 📊

Chris places 22nd out of 269 in the UK out of his Age Group for Strength Section. 3rd out of 57 in Glasgow 👏

Ruth placed 41st out of 283 in the UK for her age group in the endurance section. 4th out of 37 in Glasgow. 👏

💚 Delighted for them both. Each have worked on their weakness this year to improve overall strength and conditioning for the event. The gaps are narrowing and I can’t wait for what’s to come in 2028 for these guys.

To compete in such a fantastic competition and have the support of their family Alisa and Callan cheering them on from the side line is what it’s all out. ☺️

Hi Folks 👋

Just an update from The PT Studio. First half of the year completed Jan - June 😎

You have all kept the Studio in high spirits, great atmosphere and dedication to your training which I hugly admire for the past 6 months. As always I appreciate your commitment to classes & individual sessions and continual contributions to making The PT Studio the place it is today ☺️

What’s happening ….

✅ All Class blocks are now finish for the summer and restart week beginning 17th of August. This will be an 8 week term.

The PT Studio currently runs 6 classes and a Youth Performance Training Academy. New timetable will be posted later in the summer and any available spaces will be advertised.

⭐ Over the next few weeks there will be a few ‘out of block’ sessions and I’ll advertise any available spaces for folk to come along and try a session. It’s a great opportunity to do so 👍

🔥 ATHX Games, Glasgow takes place this weekend. I will be stepping up for the Solo Female Pros this year and Ruth & Chris Omand take on Doubles for the 2nd year running. As we are into taper week all the hard work is done. It’s been a pleasure to coach Ruth & Chris and programme design for the 3 of us. Progress has been made at each check point which is really promising. I’ll give some coverage of the event next weekend on social media. I say ‘I’ I mean Elizabeth 🤪

📈 A few spaces will become available after the summer holidays for The Youth Performance Training Academy as 3 athletes will graduate 🥹. To have coached them from S1 age to S4 is extremely rewarding. Progress from learning body weight squats to complex power movements such as cleans is just an example of the development & discipline that is achieved within the Academy.

🌏 The Online Package is still open and available to join at any point within the year. This allows everyone to exercise in their own time, own space by following structured workouts and stretch & mobility sessions I have designed. Please get in touch if you would like to join for the remainder of June or July.

📱 The PT Studio Training platform is on going with pre designed programs for gym use around Orkney, specific events such as Hyrox and strength goals such as squats etc. Please get in touch for more information regarding the platform and getting on a plan.

📚With education and learning at the forefront of The PT Studio I was delighted with the success and feedback from the Beginners and Intermediate Workshops. Keep an eye on the page for the next sessions.

🔴⚪️Good Luck to All the Junior Inter County Athletes This Weekend! 🔴⚪️

The Junior Inter County is a fantastic event to be part of as a youngest and a wonderful opportunity to represent your sport while supporting teammates across the different sports which make up the Orkney Squad. The team spirit, camaraderie, friendly rivalry against Shetland and pride of representing Orkney make it a truly special weekend.

Even at the grand old age of 40, I still look back on my own JIC days in hockey and athletics with great fondness. The friendships made, the incredible atmosphere, and the memories created are things that stay with you for a lifetime. Not to mention the red jumpers that will never be thrown out 😂 !

With JIC taking place this weekend, there will be no Youth Performance Training Academy session.

I can do all the block…lambing is nearly over 🙌

Each year always reminds me how Ruth’s classes and programmes help me in the lambing shed, the usuals are -
Sled push = pushing an awkward ewe to whichever pen she needs to go to
Farmers walk = carrying lambs for ewe to follow
Squats = helping with being on your hookers in the pen
Cardio = running after sheep (not necessarily catching them though 🤣)

But this year brought two useful exercises into use -

Sled pull - huge lamb coming with back feet which resulted in me having a hold of the ewes top end whilst wrapping my arms around the pen fence, Al with a hold of the lambs legs….and an almighty game of tug of war 🫣🙈 (ewe and lamb fine though!)

Deadlift - ewe decided that she couldn’t be arsed to walk and wanted carried (she was totally fine too!)

I’m looking forward to getting back to normal gym equipment in a clean environment though 🤣
