What if your body isn’t the problem?
Sometimes we spend years trying to fix ourselves.
We try to stop overthinking.
We try to sleep better.
We try to be less anxious.
We try to stop reacting so strongly.
We try to make ourselves feel calmer.
And when those things don't work, it can be easy to conclude:
“There must be something wrong with me.”
But what if your body is actually doing exactly what it learned to do?
Our nervous system is constantly scanning for safety and responding to what it has experienced. Sometimes those responses continue long after the original threat has passed.
The tension you carry.
The difficulty relaxing.
The constant alertness.
The need to stay in control.
The feeling that you can never quite switch off.
These aren't necessarily signs that you're broken.
They may be signs that your body has become very good at protecting you.
And that changes the question.
Instead of:
“How do I fix myself?”
perhaps we can begin asking:
“What has my body learned, and what does it need to feel safe now?”
This is one of the reasons I take a trauma-informed, nervous-system-focused approach in my work.
Rather than seeing you as a collection of problems to be fixed, I’m interested in understanding what your mind and body have been trying to do for you, and creating the conditions in which something different becomes possible.
You don't have to be broken to deserve support.
