You say when, where, who, what and how and you keep asking why!
There is only one person who is in control of their pregnancy and birth and that is YOU!
Hospital policies and guidelines are there for the medical professionals. They are bound by them, you are not. They are restrictive and not always the right thing for the individual person or baby.
However, you as the patient are not bound by these policies or guidelines. You are the person in control. You make the decisions and consent or decline all, some or no elements of maternity care.
If you don’t consent to something that is offered to you during your maternity care, it is considered ‘out of guidance’. This is something that you are entitled to do.
Not all policies and guidelines are based on evidence. In fact, only 9% of guidelines are based on top quality evidence. 50% are based on clinical trials and opinion based and the remaining 41% are based on clinical experience and not based on evidence whatsoever.
Make an informed decision about your maternity care and only accept what is right for you and your baby.
