Please head over to my page - like and share! Iβve still not given up on this dream of finishing my book! π π ππ π¦ π
When I first began writing As Brave as Odin, I thought it would simply be a little book about the healing power of horses. Then life got in the way, as it so often does. Work, family, grief, horses, responsibility, and all the ordinary chaos of trying to keep going meant the book was paused for a while.
But it never left me.
In fact, I think the time away has helped me understand what the book is really about.
As Brave as Odin is a book and personal journey about misunderstood horses, emotional connection, trust, confidence, courage, and the healing that happens when we stop trying to conquer horses β and start learning to listen.
It is for the horses called difficult.
The spooky ones. The sharp ones. The shut-down ones. The sensitive ones. The ones labelled stubborn, naughty, dramatic or too much.
But it is also for the humans who need to feel brave again.
The riders who have lost confidence. The people who feel anxious, overwhelmed or not good enough. The ones who compare themselves to everyone else. The ones who love horses deeply, but sometimes feel frightened, stuck or unsure. The ones who are trying to heal, rebuild, and find their way back to themselves.
Because sometimes it is not just the horse who needs time, patience and understanding.
Sometimes we do too.
I am not a professional horsewoman, and I do not claim to have all the answers. I am still learning every day, as I believe we all are. This book is simply my take: my observations, my feelings, my mistakes, my experiences, and the lessons horses have taught me about fear, trust, grief, courage, love and healing.
Odin was the horse who changed me. He was troubled, misunderstood, deeply feeling, and unforgettable. Through him, and through the many other experiences I have lived with horses, I have come to believe that many so-called βproblem horsesβ are not problems at all. They are horses whose stories have not yet been properly heard.
I also believe horses can help us hear our own stories more honestly.
They show us where we are afraid. They show us when we are pretending. They show us when we are rushing, bracing, hiding, grieving or doubting ourselves. And, if we are willing to listen, they can help us become softer, stronger and braver than we ever thought we could be.
I hope As Brave as Odin will be finished and out before too long. Until then, this page is where I will share thoughts, pieces of writing, memories, reflections, and the journey of bringing the book to life.
For Odin. For every horse who was never βjust naughty.β For every rider trying to be brave. And for every human who stayed long enough to listen.
