🌿 Curiosity Carousel - Today’s question: Why are old oak trees covered in lumps and bumps?

I found myself wondering this when I spotted a warty-looking old oak this morning.

The older a tree gets, the more evidence it carries of everything that’s happened to it.

I rather like that.

A little reminder that we’re gathering next Monday at Woodville. 🌿

We’ll be spending the morning outdoors, using plants to make drinks, inks and dyes, and taking some time to slow down, create and connect.

If you’re able to book, it really helps us prepare, but these are low-pressure gatherings and you’re very welcome to come along if you decide you need some woodland time on the day.

Details and the booking info are on the flyer below 💚

Next week at Woodville we’re going to be making corn dollies to mark the grain harvest. 🌾

Join us for a gentle morning outdoors, connecting with nature, making something with your hands, and spending time alongside others who understand the joys and challenges of caring for SEND children or navigating life as a neurodivergent adult.

We’ll explore the old tradition of corn dollies (using art straws rather than corn), a beautiful craft linked to harvest time, while spending time in the forest garden.

There’s no pressure to be creative, chatty, or “join in” in any particular way. Come as you are, take things at your own pace, and spend some time outdoors.

📍 Woodville, Keighley
🕙 10am–12pm

You can find more details and register your interest at the link below.

(Booking isn’t essential, but registering helps us know who to expect.)

For parent carers and neurodivergent adults. Make a simple corn dolly to celebrate the harvest season and take it home with you.

🌿 Just to clarify, as I’ve had a couple of questions…

Tomorrow’s Calm in the Wild Community Gathering is for parent carers and neurodivergent adults. These gatherings are designed to give adults a chance to spend a couple of hours outdoors, making something simple, sharing a brew and enjoying some gentle company.

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, you’d be very welcome. Full details on the flyer. 💚

Curiosity Carousel #1

Today’s question: How does grass come back after a drought?

I always assumed brown grass had died.

It turns out many grasses are simply pressing pause until conditions improve.

Nature can be remarkably patient.

Next week at our community gathering at Woodville we’ll be retreating to the woodland to see how nature is changing with the seasons 🌳

There will still be drinks and snacks, and the chance to chat to other people if you would like to. Plus we’ll have magnifiers, microscopes and mirrors to look at things from a different perspective, and art materials for anyone who wants to record what they see 🎨

There’s never any pressure to engage in activities - just an invitation to spend some time in nature 🌿

Come and join us. Details on the flyer 💚
