Exam results season is upon us and for many of our young people this can be a time of heightened anxiety, uncertainty and stress.

As part of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing campaign, we are currently raising awareness of Take Notice, encouraging us to be mindful of our thoughts, feelings and surroundings. Taking a moment to pause and focus on the present can help manage stress and build emotional resilience.

A simple grounding technique can be a useful tool for adults to practise themselves and share with the young people they support, helping to reduce feelings of overwhelm during challenging times.

Valuable advice from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. Make sure to stay safe

Seeking ways to keep cool during this relentless hot summer is understandable, but please, please stay safe around water 🌊 It's tempting to cool off in lakes and reservoirs – but open water can be much colder and deeper than it looks.

🚨 If you see someone in difficulty:
πŸ“ž Call 999 and ask for the Fire & Rescue Service if inland
πŸ—£οΈ Encourage them to float
πŸ›Ÿ Throw them something that floats if you can
❌ Never enter the water yourself

Disagreements happen in every relationship, and healthy communication is something we’re all learning. What matters most is how conflict is handled.

Children learn from the adults around them, and seeing calm conversations, compromise and problem-solving can help them build healthy relationship skills too.

If things feel difficult at home, support is available. Find out more about healthy relationships and family support through the Leicestershire Family Hubs:

Take a look at the information below from the Local Resilience Forum for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland following the latest amber heat health warning coming into force this week.

It contains valuable advice on how to protect yourself and your loved ones, how to help reduce the risk of wildfires and the risks of swimming in open water πŸ‘‡

The latest amber heat health warning comes into force this week, increasing heat-related risks for people and places.

To protect yourself and your loved ones:
β€’ Stay hydrated and keep out of the sun at its hottest (11am – 3pm)
β€’ Check in on vulnerable neighbours and relatives

Help reduce the risk of wildfires:
β€’ Take litter home, especially glass bottles
β€’ Dispose of ci******es safely
β€’ Avoid barbeques or open flames in dry grassland areas
β€’ Report fires immediately by calling 999

Please also remind young people (and others) to avoid swimming in open water, however tempting it looks. Use your local swimming pool instead.

Find lots more free information and resources on coping with extreme heat and other risks from our Risk Ready Communities team here πŸ‘‰πŸ½ https://orlo.uk/fgcww
