😄 Soooo excited to have received my new book today and can't wait to get started on it!

Blurb...
Have you ever sat down and thought anout what happens after you die? And have you told anyone what you want when you're gone? Probably not.

In this practical, funny and informative book, ex-comdian and council funeral officer, Evie King walks you through everything you need to sort your death out, so others don't have to.

As well as recounting real death stories, Evie takes you on a series of lessons and exercises spanning all things death preparation, including advice on how to:

- Think about what you really want to happen at your funeral
- Express your wishes to avoid post-death pandemonium
- Clear your clutter so those you love don't have to
- Ensure the admin of your life can be packed down quickly and efficiently
- Planning your post-death online life

Today's office was a little different! 😊

I headed to the National Funeral Exhibition with my good friend and fellow celebrant, Anita, for a day of exploring, learning and catching up with some fantastic suppliers from across the funeral industry.

There were lots of interesting conversations, plenty of fresh ideas and some lovely inspiration that I can take forward when supporting families to create personal and meaningful farewells.

I even had a go at weaving a willow coffin! Iy's safe to say that I'll be sticking to celebrancy rather than coffin weaving... 😂🌿

It's always great to see what's new, discover different options available to families and meet the people behind some wonderful products and services.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to chat with us – it was such an informative and enjoyable day.

If you'd like to know more about how a celebrant-led funeral can help create a truly personal and meaningful farewell, I'd be happy to chat. ❤️

🌳 Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending Windmills Natural Green Burial Ground's open day in Northamptonshire.

The weather may not have been on our side, but that certainly didn't dampen the dedication and passion of everyone involved. It was lovely to spend time with Jo, Neil and a wonderful group of fellow suppliers, all coming together to support a place that offers a thoughtful and environmentally conscious alternative for funerals and memorials.

I've had the privilege of leading ceremonies at Windmills before and love the peaceful surroundings and genuine care that sits at the heart of everything they do.

A huge thank you to Jo for inviting me along and to all of the fantastic suppliers who braved the weather and helped make the day such a welcoming one.

If you're exploring funeral options, would like to learn more about natural burial or are looking for a celebrant to create a personal and meaningful ceremony, I'd be delighted to have a chat.

This picture...

It isn't my favourite of me by a long shot... and yet it is hung on my kitchen wall. Why?

💙 It is the last photograph taken of my dad.

💙 It is the last time I saw my dad... socially distanced, having lunch outside his house.

Pops died unexpectedly, and alone, a few days after this was taken. That was six years ago today.

I had no idea that day that I'd never see him again.

That's why this not-perfect, taken-in-the-moment picture hangs on my kitchen wall.

💙 It takes me back to the laughter that day, the grated cheese being blown off of our bread by the wind and of Pops being more like his old self than he'd been in a while.

And, as a bonus:

💙 My son got the photo put onto canvas and surprised me with it at my dad's funeral.

Note to self (and anybody else who has read this far)... visit those who mean the most, take the photos, enjoy the laughter and definitely eat the cheese because you have no idea if the last time was very definitely the last time.

Dying Matters Awareness Week is here and this year’s theme is simple: Let’s talk about death and dying.

Because when we avoid these conversations, we often leave the people we love guessing about our wishes, our fears and what really matters to us.

And when we do talk about it, it can bring a surprising sense of clarity and comfort.

This week isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about gently opening the door to conversations:

• Asking someone what kind of send-off they’d want
• Sharing a memory of someone you’ve lost
• Writing something down you’ve been meaning to say
• Simply acknowledging that this is part of life

Mother’s Day can bring a bittersweet mix of love, gratitude and longing if your mum who is no longer here.

Today, be gentle on yourself and take the time to remember her in the stories you tell, the lessons she gave you and the love that continues. 🤍

You're not alone.

Happy International Women’s Day. 💜

Working within the wedding and funeral industries means I have the privilege of being surrounded by some truly incredible women.

🌿 Women who support families through grief with compassion and dignity.

💗 Women who help create beautiful wedding days filled with love and joy.

Women who run businesses, lift one another up, work incredibly hard behind the scenes and show up with kindness and professionalism every single day.

Today I’m celebrating all of those women - the ones I work alongside, the ones I learn from and the ones who inspire me.

Your strength, empathy and dedication make such a difference in the moments that matter most in people’s lives.

🥂 Here’s to strong women.

Happy International Women’s Day. 💜

An important change has just taken place in the UK funeral world! 👏

For the first time in more than 100 years, a new method of handling the dead has been formally legalised in the UK. On 2 March, Scotland approved regulations allowing water cremation, also known as aquamation or alkaline hydrolysis.

If you’re not familiar with it, water cremation is a process that speeds up the natural breakdown of the body. It uses water, gentle heat and an alkaline solution to reduce the body over several hours, leaving only bone. These remains are then processed into a fine white powder, similar to cremation ashes, which can then be returned to the family.

Many people see it as a more environmentally friendly option, as it produces no direct airborne emissions and doesn’t require a traditional coffin.

The process is already used in many parts of the world, including nearly 30 US states, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Even Archbishop Desmond Tutu chose water cremation for his funeral.

Right now, this change only applies in Scotland. However, the Law Commission in England and Wales is currently working on a framework that could eventually allow both water cremation and human composting (terramation) here too.

Funeral traditions do change over time and it will be interesting to see whether options like these become part of the choices families have in the future.

🤔 What are your thoughts on new, more environmentally focused funeral options?
