School is back. Is your child, tween or teen returning or starting out?
Getting them to share about their day can be a challenge. Some love this, others find it tricky to express themselves.

These are a few helpful tips to help them feel more comfortable.

Listening, Let your child share what’s on their mind, don't interrupt, don't try to fix it, just listen.

Look out for changes in behaviour or mood, these are their queues, you can reflect these, such as "I've noticed you are not saying much, I'm wondering if something not nice happened today? "

Naming and validating feelings β€” Help them to understand how they are feeling, that they are ok to feel and talk about. The I'm wondering line works well here as well.

Offer gentle reassurance, Comfort lands best after empathy, don't jump to rescuing them, but instead hearing them, and asking what they would like you to do to help them.

Everyone is different, the way we share, how easy or not easy, and the support we crave is different in us all. It's your role to let your child know that it's ok to be different, different is awesome 😎

If it's really tough, reach out for support.

GCSE results day is a day full of emotions.
No matter the results, these young people have achieved & that is what we need to focus on for them.

They may feel they have failed, the pressure around exams for this generation is HUGE. Let them feel those feelings, don't dismiss them but support them, hear them, sit with those feelings.
Take a beat, they can manage what happens next another day or today.

They may feel elated, excellent support that in the same way.

They may feel completely different to their friends, this is ok, all results are different just like we are as people, focus on the individual.

Your life doesn't begin now, you are already living, now is a stage in your life when you have to make a choice what you do next, try to enjoy the next chapter.

You are awesome to have for this far!

Using sand to explore grief supports the exploration of complex emotions, through a tactile, sensory approach, alleviating the need for words, yet still therapeutically supporting my clients through their grief.

Sand can be used with any age.

This powerful sandtray is my own, it allowed me to non verbally express how I feel about losing my beloved mum.

If you have lost a loved one, therapeutic support individually or in a group, can support you to work through your loss.

Support is available, let yourself accept it.

It's exam season πŸ“šπŸŽ“πŸ“œ

For everyone who themselves or their child is taking their or any exam, remember revision isn't what you should be doing all of the time.

To support your brain to work at its best in the exams, give it time, space and attention.

Follow these tips for a healthy mind.

Best of luck to you all, remember you can only do your best, exams aren't the be all and end all, your mental wellbeing is much more important.

On a day when I needed a little lift, unbeknown to my clients, one of them sent me this thank you poem. It made me smile, and be grateful for their kind words, I'm so lucky I love my job. When they feel that change I am so pleased for them.

Anger has such a bad reputation, yet we ALL feel anger at times. How we manage those feelings determines the outcome. Anger doesn't need to be feared, it needs to be supported.
Play therapy can do just that.
