This last week in our Animal Care sessions, our clients have headed out to forage for the horses
Not only is foraging a fantastic hands-on learning experience, it also helps clients build confidence, teamwork, plant identification skills and understanding of natural horse care. The horses absolutely loved their fresh treats!
Some of the plants we collected included:
🌱 Cleavers (Sticky W**d)
A natural lymphatic support plant which may help with circulation and detoxification. Many horses enjoy it fresh.
🌿 Nettles
Packed with vitamins and minerals including iron and magnesium. Nettles can support coat condition, joints and general wellbeing once wilted or dried.
🌼 Dandelions
Rich in nutrients and often used to support digestion and liver function. Horses usually enjoy both the leaves and flowers.
🌳 Hawthorn
Traditionally used to support heart health and circulation. Horses can safely enjoy the leaves and young shoots in moderation.
🌿 Brambles
Bramble leaves are a natural source of fibre and tannins and can provide enrichment as well as browsing opportunities for horses.
As always, all foraging is done carefully, responsibly and with horse safety in mind 🐴
