Feature Friday 🌿
This week’s theme has been Human by Nature, so it felt very fitting to share another local space that’s helping young people reconnect with creativity, confidence and practical skills in such a lovely way.
I recently came across Create & Chat Collective and instantly loved what they’re doing.
In a world where so much of life is online and fast-paced now, I think spaces where children can slow down, make things with their hands, learn practical creative skills and simply be encouraged to explore and create are incredibly important.
Because creativity isn’t just about making pretty things.
It teaches problem-solving.
Creative thinking.
Lateral thinking.
Patience.
Adaptability.
Confidence.
The ability to keep trying when something doesn’t work first time.
And I think having creative outlets from a young age also gives children somewhere healthy to put their thoughts, emotions and energy. It gives them space to regulate, express themselves and discover what they’re capable of in a way that feels natural rather than forced.
There’s something really special about learning to make something yourself. Not just for the skill itself, but for the sense of capability and self-belief that comes with it too.
I also absolutely love seeing spaces where young people are treated as capable creators rather than passive consumers.
And huge congratulations to Create & Chat Collective on recently receiving National Lottery funding 🌿✨ It’s always lovely seeing good people with good ideas being supported to grow what they do, and I’m excited to see what opportunities that opens up for them going forward.
If you haven’t already, definitely go and have a little look at what they do 🧵✨
I think this is exactly the sort of thing we need more of — spaces where people can create, connect, learn and remember what it feels like to be human together again.
