You’ve Been Meaning To Book The Appointment… So What’s Really Stopping You?

A patient recently shared something that many people with dental anxiety will recognise.

They weren’t worried every day.

They weren’t constantly thinking about dentists.

But whenever it was time to book an appointment, something happened.

Their stomach tightened.

Their mind raced ahead.

They imagined discomfort, embarrassment, bad news, or simply feeling trapped in the chair.

So they put it off.

Tomorrow became next week.

Next week became next month.

And before they knew it, years had passed.

The problem wasn’t a lack of motivation.

The problem was that their subconscious mind had learned to associate dental visits with fear, anxiety, or discomfort.

And when the subconscious sees something as a threat, avoidance feels like the safest option.

That’s why I’m delighted to announce a collaboration between Donna Fleming Hypnotherapy and Devine Dental.

Together, we’re helping people who struggle with dental anxiety feel calmer, more confident, and more comfortable accessing the dental care they need.

Through hypnotherapy, you can learn to change the automatic emotional response that has been holding you back.

Imagine walking into your appointment feeling more settled than you expected.

Imagine sitting in the chair feeling surprisingly comfortable.

Imagine leaving afterwards wondering why you spent so many years worrying about something that now feels manageable.

Because dental anxiety doesn’t have to decide what happens next.

If fear, anxiety, needles, gagging, loss of control, previous experiences, or even the thought of a dental appointment has been stopping you from getting the care you need, we’re here to help.

Message me to arrange a free consultation and find out how hypnotherapy, alongside the supportive team at Devine Dental, could help make your next dental visit a much more comfortable experience.

Avoiding the dentist because of fear? You’re not alone.

For many people, the hardest part of a dental appointment isn’t the treatment itself.

It’s the days of worry beforehand.
The sleepless night.
The racing heart in the waiting room.
The urge to cancel at the last minute.

That’s why we’re pleased to announce a local collaboration between Donna Fleming Hypnotherapy and Devine Dental, Linlithgow.

Together, we’re helping people who experience dental anxiety and phobia feel more comfortable, confident and in control when attending dental appointments.

Hypnotherapy isn’t about losing control or being “put under.” It’s a relaxed, focused state that can help you change the way your mind responds to situations that currently trigger fear and anxiety.

Imagine being able to attend your appointment feeling calmer than you expected.

Imagine completing treatment without the overwhelming stress that may have held you back in the past.

Many people discover that when the fear begins to change, everything else becomes easier too.

If dental anxiety has been stopping you from getting the care you need, we’d be happy to discuss how hypnotherapy may help.

Free 15-minute consultation, no pressure, just a chat to see if hypnotherapy is right for you.

Sessions cost £95

Online or in person

Why do some people seem to move forward… while others stay stuck?

Maybe you’ve tried to stop worrying.

Maybe you’ve promised yourself you’ll be more confident.

Maybe you’ve told yourself, “Tomorrow will be different.”

And yet, despite your best intentions, the same challenges keep showing up.

So, what is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy uses a natural state of focused attention and relaxation, often called a trance state.

Despite what you’ve seen on television, trance isn’t sleep, unconsciousness, or being under someone else’s control. In fact, most people are surprised by how normal it feels.

Think about those moments when you’ve become absorbed in a good book, a film, or a long drive and temporarily lost track of time. A hypnotic trance is often very similar—a state where your attention becomes more focused and distractions fade into the background.

A hypnotherapist guides you into this state using their voice, gentle suggestions, relaxation techniques, and your own imagination. You remain aware of what’s happening around you and can choose to speak, move, or end the session at any time.

Once you’re comfortably focused, hypnotherapy can help you explore new perspectives, strengthen helpful beliefs, and support positive change in areas that may have felt difficult to shift through willpower alone.

People often choose hypnotherapy when they want to:

✓ Feel calmer and less anxious
✓ Build confidence and self-belief
✓ Overcome fears and phobias
✓ Sleep better
✓ Stop smoking
✓ Improve performance at work, sport, or public speaking
✓ Develop healthier habits

The goal isn’t to change who you are.

It’s to help you become more of the person you’d like to be.

If you’ve been wondering whether things could feel different, perhaps the better question is:

What might happen if you gave yourself the opportunity to find out?

Message me to book your free consultation, no pressure, just a chat to see if hypnotherapy is right for you.

Thank you for your time.

What if the thing holding you back isn’t what you think it is?

You’ve read the books.
Tried to push through.
Promised yourself that this time would be different.

Yet somehow, you keep finding yourself back in the same place.

It’s not because you lack motivation.

And it may not be because you’re not trying hard enough.

Sometimes the reason people stay stuck has very little to do with willpower, and much more to do with patterns operating beneath conscious awareness.

The interesting part?

Once those patterns begin to change, people are often surprised by how different things can start to feel.

The other day, I was chatting to a woman on the golf course.

When she asked what I did for a living, I told her I was a hypnotherapist.

She laughed and said,

“You know what? I’m terrified of spiders.”

Then she quickly added,

“And before you ask, I know it’s ridiculous.”

I asked her a question.

“If you saw a spider on the other side of the course right now, how would you feel?”

She smiled.

“Fine.”

“What if it was in your living room tonight?”

The smile disappeared.

“Completely different story.”

And that’s what I found interesting.

Because phobias aren’t really about logic.

If they were, nobody would have them.

After all, she knew the spider couldn’t hurt her.

She knew it wasn’t dangerous.

Yet her heart would still race.

Her body would still react.

Because phobias don’t live in the logical part of the mind.

They live in the part that learns quickly and protects automatically.

A bit like a smoke alarm.

Once it’s been programmed to react, it reacts first and asks questions later.

The alarm isn’t trying to be difficult.

It’s trying to keep you safe.

The problem is that sometimes it’s responding to something that doesn’t need protecting against.

She thought about that for a moment.

Then said,

“So my reaction isn’t really about the spider?”

I smiled.

“Not usually.”

Because most people with a spider phobia don’t want to run away.

They don’t want to panic.

They don’t want to feel embarrassed.

The reaction simply happens.

And perhaps that’s the good news.

Because if a response can be learned…

It can often be changed.

And sometimes, that’s where freedom begins.

Does the sight of a spider make your heart race?

What if your reaction could change?
