Can't make your appointment? Please let us know ☺️

We know life doesn't always go to plan, and sometimes appointments get missed. But if you no longer need your appointment at one of our hospitals, cancelling it means we can offer that slot to another patient who is waiting.

The NHS App makes it easy to keep track of your appointments, check dates and times, and manage appointments from your phone. Switching on notifications can also help make sure you don't miss an appointment 📲

Every cancelled appointment that we know about in advance is another opportunity to treat someone sooner, helping us make the best use of our services and reduce waiting times for everyone.

To download, simply search "NHS App" in your device's app store.

The NHS App is available to people aged 13 and over who are registered with an NHS GP surgery in England or the Isle of Man.

Congratulations to our Palliative Care team who have been recognised nationally after being shortlisted for two HSJ Awards ⭐

The IMPaCT North Palliative Care Virtual Ward was developed to support patients with a terminal illness and their families 💙 It brings together specialist nurses, doctors and therapists in a partnership between Aintree, Broadgreen and the Royal Liverpool hospitals, Mersey Care and Woodlands Hospice.

The service provides enhanced, hospital-level care coordination and remote monitoring for patients with end-of-life care needs in their own homes or care settings, reducing avoidable hospital admissions.

➡ The team has been shortlisted for the ‘Palliative and End of Life Safety Initiative’ in the HSJ Patient Safety Awards, as well as the ‘Clinical Pathway Redesign’ category in the national HSJ Awards.

Dr Laura Shaw, Consultant in Palliative Medicine at UHL Group, said: “We are making a real difference in the care our patients receive. The Palliative Care Virtual Ward is now up to ‘10 beds’ and we help to care for patients in their usual place of residence with unstable symptoms and provide 'step up' community care and 'step down' care when they transition home on discharge from hospitals or hospices.

“We help to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions for our patients and when they need to be admitted to hospital, we help to reduce their length of stay, or facilitate a transfer to a hospice if this is a more appropriate place of care for that patient.”

➡ The HSJ Patient Safety Awards will take place on 28 September and the national HSJ Awards will take place on 19 November.

➡ Read more about the service in the comments.

➡️ Network outage at Royal and Aintree hospitals

We are currently experiencing technical issues with some of our internal IT systems at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Aintree University Hospital.

As a result, we have enacted our business continuity plans to maintain safe patient care and, in some cases, our clinical teams have temporarily reverted to manual, paper-based processes, which may lead to delays for patients accessing some of our services.

🚑 Our Emergency Department remains open, however, we are currently experiencing unprecedented demand, so we urge people not to attend unless your condition is a medical emergency.

➡️ Please consider using other services, such as your GP, local pharmacy or walk-in centre. The NHS 111 service can be used to help identify the most appropriate service for you and help avoid long waits.

Colleagues at Broadgreen Hospital are celebrating the opening of a newly refurbished, state-of-the-art operating theatre 🥳

Following a £1 million investment, the upgraded Theatre 8 now features ultra-clean air technology to help reduce the risk of infection, enhanced facilities to support more complex procedures, and the latest 4K imaging technology to improve the surgical environment for both patients and staff.

The investment will help teams carry out more operations safely throughout the year, improving access to treatment for patients across the region.

Jeff Woods, Clinical Services Manager for Theatres at Broadgreen Hospital, said: "We're delighted to have completed this project, which will mean we can operate on more patients, safely throughout the year."

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this fantastic new facility to life 👏

A dedicated Ketamine Clinic at Aintree University Hospital featured on BBC North West Tonight 🎥

Aintree’s Urology Centre featured in a BBC North West Tonight series last night exploring the rising trend in ketamine use and highlighting the great work our Urology Team is doing for patients who are experiencing lasting side effects from taking the drug over a period of time.

The Ketamine Clinic was established to help patients across Cheshire and Merseyside who have been referred by their GP with urological side effects that have been caused by Ketamine use. Chronic usage affects the lining of the bladder, and can shrink it, leading to frequency in needing to urinate, infections, bleeding, blockages and incontinence.

Celebrating our latest Team of the Month winners 🥳

Alcohol Care team - their care has made a life-changing difference to a patient who had struggled with alcohol dependency since their teenage years. In their nomination, the patient said: "I am still under the alcohol team and knowing I have a high level of support in place reduces my anxiety and is so important to my recovery." 🥰

Gynaecology Ward - an emotional and demanding environment, but even through the most difficult moments, the team remains a constant presence, providing emotional and physical support. Colleagues listen without judgement, offer quiet reassurance, and advocate strongly to ensure every patient’s voice is heard 🙌

Urgent Suspected Lower GI Cancer Service - small team, big impact. 77% of patients now receive a definitive diagnosis within just 28 days of referral. For patients, the difference is huge. Those without cancer get reassurance faster, easing anxiety and uncertainty, while patients with a diagnosis can begin the right treatment and support without delay 🫶

The Frances Centre STAR Workers - the team created a memorable Dementia Action Week event, bringing patients and their loved ones together through live music and refreshments. The event at Aintree University Hospital created a warm, welcoming atmosphere where people could connect, share meaningful moments and enjoy time together 🥰
