The five-minute check-in helps you notice. The toolkit helps you explore.
Sometimes a client session stays with you.
You may understand what happened, yet still notice tension, heaviness, uncertainty or an impulse to rescue, withdraw or find a quick solution.

The Body-Informed Supervision Toolkit provides a more structured way to pause and explore what may be happening:
• Within your own bodily response
• Between you and the client
• Around the wider context of the work
• In relation to boundaries, ethics and professional responsibility

It is designed to support reflection—not to diagnose the client or assign a fixed meaning to what your body notices.

Use it before supervision, after a difficult session or whenever something remains unresolved.

The toolkit is available from the Resources section at: simonriley.uk

Your body’s response is not a diagnosis of your client.
But it may be something worth bringing to supervision.

You might notice:
• Tightness when discussing a particular client
• An impulse to rescue, reassure or withdraw
• Heaviness, tiredness or restlessness
• A change in breathing
• Feeling unusually protective, frustrated or uncertain

These responses do not have one fixed meaning. They may relate to your own experience, the therapeutic relationship, the client’s material—or several things at once.

Body-informed supervision creates space to notice these responses without rushing to interpret them.

The question is not:
“What does this prove about my client?”

It is:
“What might become clearer if we remain curious about what I noticed?”
What do you tend to notice first—your breathing, tension, movement or energy?

What did your body notice while your client was speaking?

Perhaps your shoulders tightened.
Your breathing changed.
You felt unusually tired, protective, impatient—or pulled towards solving the problem.

These responses are not conclusions about the client, but they may contain useful information for supervision.

I have created a free 5-Minute Body-Informed Supervision Check-In to help therapists pause and notice:
• What is happening in the body
• What may belong to the practitioner
• What could be emerging within the therapeutic relationship
• What might be helpful to explore in supervision

It can be used before supervision, after a difficult session or whenever something remains with you.

Download it free from the Resources section at: simonriley.uk

When words are difficult, the hands can still communicate.

Clay Field Therapy® offers children and young people another way to express, regulate and respond when talking feels hard or overwhelming.

The work is not about making art.

It is about touch, pressure, movement, resistance, warm water, pause — and what the body may begin to show through the hands.

I am now offering individual Clay Field Therapy® sessions in the West Midlands for children, young people and adults.

No clay experience is needed.
No pressure to talk.
Nothing has to be made.

I also offer clinical supervision for therapists and small experiential Clay Field Therapy® workshops.

You’ve explained it.
But your body still reacts.

That is often where Clay Field Therapy® begins.

Not with more pressure to talk.
Not with needing to find the right words.
Not with having to explain everything again.

Clay Field Therapy® is a body-based, sensory approach using clay, warm water, touch, pressure, movement and pause.

It may be helpful when someone feels overwhelmed, shut down, anxious, stuck, or unable to express what they feel through words alone.

I am now offering Clay Field Therapy® in the West Midlands, including:

Individual Clay Field Therapy® sessions
For adults, children and young people.

Supervision for therapists
For practitioners interested in body-based, sensory and creative therapeutic work.

Healing Through Touch workshops
Small experiential introductions to Clay Field Therapy®.

This is not an art workshop.
No clay experience is needed.
No pressure to talk.
No need to be creative.

What actually happens in an Introduction to Clay Field Therapy® workshop?

We begin with an accessible introduction to the thinking behind the approach.

You then experience the Clay Field directly—noticeably different from simply reading about it or watching someone else work.

There is time to explore movement, pressure, resistance and contact with the material, followed by supported reflection on what you noticed.

This is not an art class. There is nothing you are expected to make, and no artistic ability is needed.

The workshop is open to counsellors, psychotherapists, play therapists, trainees and other helping professionals.

It is an experiential introduction rather than qualifying training in Clay Field Therapy®.

A free 5-minute reflection before supervision.
If you sometimes arrive at supervision knowing a client is on your mind but unsure where to begin, I’ve created a short printable check-in.
It helps you notice:
• what happens when you bring the client to mind
• what emotion appears
• what you feel pulled to do
• what feels difficult to say
• what you know versus what you are interpreting
• the question you actually want help thinking about
It’s free.
You can find it under Resources at simonriley.uk.

What happens when breath meets clay?

Your breath changes your touch—and working with clay can change your breathing.

Breath & Clay is a gentle three-hour experiential workshop combining conscious breathing with hands-on clay work to support grounding, regulation and embodied awareness.

Across the morning, we’ll explore:

• Grounding Breath & Clay
• Rhythmic Breath & Clay
• Nurturing Breath & Clay
• Integrated Clay Exploration

No artistic or breathwork experience is needed. All materials are provided.

The first copies of my new supervision resources are already being downloaded.

I created these because therapists can sometimes know that something happened in a session before they have the words to explain it.

A client stays with you.
You feel unusually responsible.
You notice an urge to rescue, withdraw or work harder.
That doesn’t tell us what is happening for the client.
But it may give us something useful to become curious about.

There is now a free 5-Minute Body-Informed Supervision Check-In and a deeper 35-page Body-Informed Supervision Toolkit.

Both are available under Resources at simonriley.uk

Notice more than what was said.
