Do you know the difference between a Safeguarding Adults Review (SAR) and a Child Safeguarding Practice Review (CSPR)? 💡

When a vulnerable person is seriously harmed or tragically loses their life, agencies come together to find out what went wrong and how to stop it from happening again. But the way we review these cases depends heavily on whether the person was an adult or a child.

Here is a simple guide to how they differ:

🔹 The Age Factor: SARs are for adults (18+) who have care and support needs. CSPRs are for any child under the age of 18.
🔹 The Triggers: A child’s review specifically looks at cases where abuse or neglect is suspected. An adult’s review can be triggered by abuse, but it also frequently looks at severe self-neglect, where someone may have refused help but agencies failed to coordinate properly.
🔹 The Rights Issue: Adults have the legal right to make their own choices—even choices professionals think are unwise. This makes adult safeguarding incredibly complex. Children, on the other hand, rely entirely on the protection of parents, guardians, and the state.

Why does this matter?
Neither of these reviews is about pointing fingers or blaming individual workers. They exist to find gaps in the system, improve how police, councils, and NHS trusts talk to each other, and ultimately protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

Key Responsibilities
- Providing personal care, including washing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Supporting service users with mobility and daily living activities.
- Assisting with meals and ensuring nutritional needs are met.
- Promoting independence, dignity, and choice.
- Monitoring and reporting changes in service users' physical and emotional wellbeing.
- Maintaining accurate records and care documentation.
- Supporting individuals with dementia, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, and physical disabilities.
- Working in accordance with safeguarding, infection control, and health and safety procedures.
- Building positive relationships with service users, families, and healthcare professionals.

Requirements
Minimum 6 months' paid experience in a care home, nursing home, supported living service, hospital, or domiciliary care setting.

- Right to work in the UK.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Caring, professional, and reliable attitude.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
- Mandatory training certificates are desirable but not essential.
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred.
