Last year, we had the privilege of recognising Kathryn Marsden OBE at the Black Women in Care Awards.

BWIC was created to celebrate and amplify Black women across social care, but we also believe in recognising those who stand alongside, advocate for and make a meaningful difference within our sector.

But what if you've been doing more than you realise?

Supporting someone through a difficult moment.
Advocating when it matters.
Helping a colleague find their feet.
Stepping up when your team needs you.
Making a difference in ways that have become so normal, you barely notice them anymore.

Your job title doesn't tell the whole story of your impact.

So, take another look at what you've been doing.

You know that thing where someone asks, “How are you?” and you automatically say, “I’m fine” before you've even thought about it?

Then you carry on.

You get through your shift.
You answer the messages.
You help someone else figure things out.
You go home tired, but tell yourself you'll deal with how you're feeling later.

And then “later” becomes next week.

For people who spend so much of their time caring for others, it can be surprisingly easy to get used to putting yourself somewhere at the bottom of the list.

That was one of the things we wanted to remind us of: the person doing the caring deserves care and consideration too.

Not just during a campaign. Not just when you're completely exhausted.

So here's our question to you today:

HOW ARE YOU DOING?
PS: Answer without saying "I'm fine"
