Sudbury Suffolk
Specialising in the therapy of Children, Adolescents and Young Adults

Childhood can be a tricky time to negotiate, with each developmental milestone comes new challenges and that’s without the unexpected events that

often occur to disrupt the path of emotional growth and well- being. Then there’s adolescents, a time of great change and turbulence and the question of......

” who am I” ? Sometimes we just need a little empathy and understanding and time to explore our internal world to have an understanding of how to negotiate the path of life to becoming a happy and well adjusted adult.

Look at this incredible structure one of my young clients and I built together! 🧱✨
Our process involved a lot of exploration around safety, grounding, and building strength and resilience—all key elements of the counselling journey. We started by building our own separate structures, and then my client suggested joining them together. What a beautiful metaphor for our connection and collaboration.
I truly love my job. It’s an absolute honour to be invited into the internal worlds of such incredible children, to join them on their journeys, and to see them flourish. 🌱

Not all counsellors are created equal – and choosing the right one matters more than you think.

The right counsellor will not only have the right qualifications, but will also create a space where you feel safe, heard, and genuinely supported. Therapy should feel collaborative, ethical, and grounded in respect – not rushed, pressured, or one-sided.

If you are considering counselling, save this checklist and use it as a guide. You deserve support that feels safe, empowering, and aligned with your needs. 💓

Indeed - often true

Indeed - often true

There's a waiting room full of people trying to fix themselves for crimes they didn't commit.

The woman whose husband screams at her is researching communication techniques. The kid whose parent ignores them is learning emotional regulation. The employee whose boss humiliates them is working on building resilience. The friend whose "best friend" manipulates them is practicing boundary-setting.

Notice who's not in therapy? The husband. The parent. The boss. The friend doing the damage.

They don't think they need it. Why would they? From their perspective, everything's fine. You're the problem. You're too sensitive. You're overreacting. You're the one who needs to change.

And you believe them. That's the twisted genius of it. You're the one showing up to therapy at 6 PM on a Tuesday, paying money you don't have, trying to figure out why you can't make it work with someone who's actively destroying you.

The people who need therapy don't come. But the people who do come? They leave different. Stronger. Clearer about what they'll no longer tolerate.

And sometimes the only revenge is healing.
It is becoming someone who won't be their victim anymore.
It is walking away and building a life where people who refuse to look at themselves can't touch you.

At Clare Counselling, we believe that understanding the "why" behind a child’s behaviour is the first step toward healing.
This fascinating article from The Conversation explores how modern neuroscience is changing the way we approach raising children. We are moving away from traditional discipline and toward trauma-informed parenting—an approach that prioritises brain development, emotional safety, and connection.
Trauma-informed parenting isn't just a trend; it is the way forward for building resilient, regulated, and healthy families.

Old-school parenting strategies like ‘go to your room!’ can often amplify the very behavior that parents want to correct.

A quick update from Clare Counselling 🌿

Since the start of the year, I have been incredibly moved by the number of people reaching out to start their therapeutic journey. I’ve received an influx of emails, referrals, and messages, and I want you to know that I see you and I hear you.
I am doing my very best to respond to each and every one of you as quickly as I can. Since moving from my practice in Sudbury, I no longer have a team with me—it is now just me managing everything from the clinical work to the admin.
I appreciate your patience and your grace while I work through my messages. Your well-being is my priority, and I want to ensure I give every inquiry the attention it deserves.
If You Need Support Right Now
If you are struggling and feel you cannot wait for a response, please do not suffer in silence. Help is available through these dedicated services:

Your GP: Contact your local doctor’s surgery for an urgent appointment.
The Samaritans: Call 116 123 anytime, day or night, for free confidential support.
Suffolk Mind / Local Services: Reach out to the mental health support networks available across Suffolk.
Emergency Care: If you are in an immediate crisis or at risk of harm, please Call 111 and press option 2 for the NHS Mental Health Crisis Support line or 999.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. I look forward to connecting with many of you soon.
Warmly,
Clare
