At 41, I had my very first tennis lesson. 🎾

Growing up, my parents worked incredibly hard to give my siblings and me a wonderful life. They sacrificed so much, and because they were always working, there wasn’t really the opportunity for after-school clubs, lessons, or sports. Looking back, I understand why, and I’m grateful for everything they did for us.

Fast forward to today, my son has opportunities to try so many different activities. One day he asked me, “Did you do any clubs when you were little?” The answer was no.

Recently, one of my clients inspired me. At 50, they decided to learn piano and take up taekwondo. It reminded me that you’re never too old to start something new.

My son inspired me too.

So today, I took the plunge and started learning tennis with his coach. A complete beginner. A little nervous. Very excited.

I’m not doing this to become the next Wimbledon champion. I’m doing it because I want to keep learning, keep growing, and create memories with my son.

One day he’ll be older, busy with friends, work, and life. But maybe tennis can be our thing. Maybe I’ll be able to call him and say, “Fancy a game?” and afterwards we’ll grab lunch and spend some quality time together.

Sometimes the best time to start is now.

Here’s to new beginnings, lifelong learning, and making memories that last a lifetime. ❤️🎾

On the eve of my birthday, I received a gift I will never forget.
A woman I support following a stroke- a teacher and musician who once lived through piano keys and guitar strings-attended a Headway group with other stroke survivors.
Since her stroke, she no longer plays as she once did.
But she still created.
She painted a picture for me… using her left hand.
And in that moment, it wasn’t about paint or technique.
It was about resilience.
It was about identity refusing to disappear.
It was about finding another way to say: I am still here.
As clinicians, we often measure progress in numbers, goals, and reports.
But moments like this remind me what truly matters:
Recovery is not just function.
It is meaning.
It is dignity.
It is connection.
It is creativity that survives even after life changes everything.
I am deeply grateful for this gift.
Not because of what it is…
but because of what it represents. 💙
This is why I love what I do.

🌈🐻 Makaton Story Time – Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
Stories are a wonderful way to support children’s communication, attention and language development. Using Makaton signs alongside a familiar story like Brown Bear helps children connect words with actions, visuals and meaning.
In this full Makaton story, children can learn and practise signs for animals, colours and simple question phrases while enjoying a repetitive and predictable story structure. Repetition helps build confidence and encourages children to join in with the signs and words.
Makaton is a powerful tool for supporting speech, language and communication, and it can benefit all children – not just those with additional needs.
Try signing along with the story and see which signs your child enjoys the most! 🐻🦆🐸🐴

🧠✨ BodySwap & Speech Therapy ✨🕶️
We’re exploring something really special in therapy — using immersive BodySwap-style VR simulations to gently support real-life communication and social skills 💬
With tools like BodySwaps, learners can step into another person’s perspective and practise conversations in a safe, kind, and supportive space — helping to build confidence, connection, and trust in communication. It gives them the freedom to try, make mistakes, learn, and grow — without pressure or judgement 🤍
The VR offers supportive feedback on key communication and social skills, including:
🗣️ what they say (content & structure)
👀 eye contact
🧍 posture & body language
🎵 tone of voice
🤝 social presence, connection & engagement
Many modules include a powerful “body swap” moment — where learners watch themselves from another person’s point of view — gently building insight, self-awareness, confidence, and social understanding.
This gives learners the chance to reflect, learn, and practise again, using repetition to build real skills in a calm, supportive way 🌱
We’re using this approach with young adults with learning difficulties to nurture key social, communication, and life skills, including:
🔹 Interview skills & work readiness
🔹 Conflict management & negotiation
🔹 Social interaction skills
🔹 Active listening & turn-taking
🔹 Presentation & speaking skills
🔹 Perspective-taking & empathy
🔹 Functional communication
🔹 Growth mindset & self-belief
🔹 Leadership skills
This immersive VR approach makes therapy gentle, engaging, safe, and meaningful — helping learners grow in confidence and carry their skills into real-world life, education, and work 🌍✨
Connection. Confidence. Safety. Practice. Growth. Real-life skills.
This is therapy for the real world 💬🧠🤍

🍕 Yes — people with dysphagia can still enjoy the foods they love.
This is a personalised picture recipe card I created for a client with dysphagia who wanted one simple thing:
👉 to enjoy pizza again — safely.
Dysphagia is a swallowing difficulty that can affect how someone eats, drinks, and enjoys food. It’s not just about safety — it’s about quality of life, dignity, independence, and choice.
So instead of saying “you can’t have pizza”, we asked:
✨ How can we adapt it safely?
✨ How can we modify texture without removing enjoyment?
✨ How can we keep food familiar and meaningful?
This pizza was adapted to a minced & moist / pureed texture while still keeping:
✔️ familiar flavours
✔️ recognisable structure
✔️ enjoyment
✔️ safety
✔️ dignity
✔️ independence
💬 Real therapy is person-centred therapy
Not just targets and exercises — but real life goals, real food, real routines, and real joy.
Because therapy should never just be about swallowing.
It should be about living.

To the families and loved ones who support, encourage, and advocate every step of the way-your patience, strength, and compassion do not go unnoticed. You play a vital role in progress, recovery, and wellbeing, and it is a privilege to work in partnership with you.
Over the past year, we have witnessed resilience, determination, and meaningful progress across every stage of adulthood. It has been an honour to support communication, swallowing, and quality of life during some of life’s most challenging and transformative moments.
We wish you a New Year filled with good health, hope, connection, and continued progress. Thank you for your trust, collaboration, and commitment to person-centred care.
Warmest wishes,
