Kingsley Home Care team brightens the day for elderly patients at James Paget Hospital

A stay on a hospital ward can be a frustrating and lonely experience for too many elderly people – especially when they are missing out on a glorious summer.

So Kingsley Home Care’s East Norfolk and Suffolk Coast team, based in Lowestoft, came up with a bright idea to put a smile on their faces.

Kingsley Home Care’s Regional Support Manager Hayley Forbes and her team spend their working lives supporting mainly elderly people to stay in their own homes – so their idea was to bring some homely comfort to those in hospital.

Hayley said: “We put together 20 wellbeing bags with puzzle books, self-care products and a treat for people on the elderly ward at James Paget Hospital who might be in need of a mood boost.”

She presented the gifts to Paul Hendy, from the hospital’s charity team, who said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to the team at Kingsley Home Care for their lovely donation. These bags will brighten up the stay of older patients who may have to be on our Ward 12 for a little while.”

🌮🎉 A well-deserved celebration for our Lowestoft team! 🎉🌮

Yesterday, we swapped meetings for tacos as the team came together for a celebratory Taco Bell lunch following our recent GOOD rating in the PAMMs inspection.

This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment our colleagues show every day to delivering high-quality care and support. We're incredibly proud of what has been accomplished and grateful to everyone who played a part in this fantastic result.

💜 30 Miles for a Cause Close to Her Heart 💜

Today, our wonderful team member Catherine reached the halfway point of her incredible 30-mile fundraising walk in aid of Kidney Research UK.

Setting off from Caister just before 6.00am, Cathy arrived at Ness Point shortly after 10.00am, having already completed around 30,000 steps! Our team was there to cheer her on before she enjoyed a well-earned break and headed back to complete the second half of her journey, another 30,000 steps ahead. We think she's certainly earned that relaxing bath and well-deserved glass of wine this evening! 😊

Cathy has been part of the Kingsley Home Care family since October 2024.

Before joining the Kingsley Home Care team, Cathy spent many years caring for her terminally ill husband, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2018.

In 2020, Cathy met her current husband, Chris, and the couple married in 2022. However, before their wedding, Chris was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2021. After years of dialysis, he received a double kidney transplant in 2025. While they had hoped the transplant would significantly improve his quality of life, Chris sadly remains very unwell.

Cathy's fundraising walk is inspired by their journey and her determination to raise awareness of kidney disease while supporting the vital work of Kidney Research UK.

As Cathy says:
"Most people do not realise the impact of this terrible disease, even though it affects 1 in 10 people."

We're incredibly proud of Cathy for her determination, compassion, and resilience, and wish her every success as she completes this amazing challenge.
