TICK TOCK... IT'S A TICK! π·οΈ
Found a tick on yourself, your child, or even the dog after a countryside walk?
Ticks are small blood-sucking parasites that can sometimes carry Lyme disease, a bacterial infection that can cause serious health problems if left untreated.
β
Don't panic
β
Don't squeeze it
β
Don't cover it in Vaseline, alcohol, nail varnish or any other old wives' tales
The best way to remove a tick is with a proper tick removal tool or fine-tipped tweezers. Grasp it as close to the skin as possible and pull upwards slowly and steadily. Once removed, clean the area with soap and water.
Keep an eye out over the following days and weeks for:
π΄ A circular "bullseye" rash
π€ Flu-like symptoms
π΄ Unusual tiredness
If these develop, contact your GP and mention the tick bite.
As someone who spends plenty of time outdoors, I always keep a tick remover in my first aid kit. They're tiny, cheap, and make removal much easier!
Have you ever found a tick on yourself, your child, or your pet?
