🏡 There really is no place like home

Home isn’t just four walls.

It’s your favourite chair.
Your own cup in the cupboard. ☕
The garden you’ve watched grow. 🌷
The neighbours you know.
Your photographs, memories and familiar routines.

Sometimes, when someone begins to need more support, families can feel that moving into residential care is the only option.

But it doesn’t always have to be.

With the right support, live-in care can help people remain in the home they love, surrounded by everything that feels familiar, while continuing to live with choice, dignity and independence. 💙

At Carinyo Care, we don’t just ask, “What support do you need?”

We ask, “What matters to you?”

Because good care should fit around someone’s life, not the other way around.

💙 Making a Difference – One Starfish at a Time ⭐

During my early years in care, around 2010, I had the privilege of attending dementia training delivered by the incredible Deena Heeney MBE. Her passion, knowledge and compassion made a lasting impression on me, but there was one story she shared that has stayed with me ever since.

It was the story of someone walking along a beach, returning stranded starfish to the sea. With thousands along the shoreline, they were asked how they could possibly make a difference.

The answer was simple:

“It made a difference to that one.”

All these years later, that message means just as much to me now as it did then.

Working in health and social care, we can't always change a diagnosis, take away every difficulty or solve every challenge. But we can make a difference to the person in front of us.

We can help someone feel safe.
We can protect their dignity.
We can respect their choices.
We can ease their fears.
We can bring a smile.
We can help a family feel supported and reassured.

And to that one person, those things can mean everything.

Throughout my career I've continued to learn, develop and challenge my own thinking. More recently, having the opportunity to learn from Jan Burns MBE and deepen my understanding of dignity in care has reinforced something that Deena taught me all those years ago — ultimately, good care comes back to seeing, respecting and valuing the individual in front of us.

I still have my original copy of the starfish story, and it now has pride of place on the wall in our Carinyo Care office. It's a daily reminder to myself and our team that every person matters, every act of kindness matters, and every opportunity to make a difference matters.

Thank you, Deena, for a lesson that has stayed with me throughout my career and that I now have the privilege of passing on to others. 💙

Sometimes making a difference isn't about changing the whole world.

It's about changing the world for one person. ⭐

🌐✨ Our new-look website is live! ✨🌐

We’re really excited to share the fresh new look of the Carinyo Care website! 💙

Over the past few months, we’ve been working hard to create a website that better reflects who we are, what we stand for and, most importantly, the compassionate and person-centred approach we bring to live-in care.

Our new website makes it easier to:

🏡 Understand how live-in care works
💙 Learn more about Carinyo Care and our values
🤝 Meet our team
⭐ Read about the experiences of the people we support
📞 Find out how we can help you or someone you love

A very special thank you has to go to Nick Druce who has worked closely with me throughout the process. Thank you for your patience, ideas and for helping bring our vision for Carinyo Care to life. It’s been a real team effort, and I’m so pleased with the result!

We’d love you to take a look around and let us know what you think. 💙

🥧 More Than Just a Shepherd’s Pie…

Some of the things we take for granted, moving around our home, preparing ingredients or cooking a favourite meal, can mean everything when someone is working to regain their independence.

When we first began supporting this client, she was unable to mobilise or prepare food and relied on others for most aspects of daily life.

Through patient encouragement, nurturing support and making sure the correct equipment was requested and put in place, she has made wonderful progress. This week, she was able to get back into the kitchen and cook a homemade shepherd’s pie alongside her carer. ❤️

This wasn’t simply about preparing a meal. It was about rebuilding confidence, developing skills and helping someone feel involved and in control again.

Good care isn’t about taking over, it’s about recognising what someone can do, supporting them at their own pace and celebrating every step towards greater independence.

And the shepherd’s pie looked rather delicious too! 🥰

It was great to catch up with our Director, Philip, last week and take some time to reflect on our progress and discuss the next steps for Carinyo Care. 💙☕️

A key part of our conversation focused on how we can continue to embed dignity and compassion throughout every area of the company, from the care we provide to the way we support and value our team.

Regular conversations like these help us keep learning, improving and moving forward while ensuring that our values remain at the heart of everything we do.

Exciting plans ahead for Carinyo Care! 💙💛❤️

Great write-up about our friends at THE FED
It’s always fantastic to see the incredible work happening in care being recognised and celebrated in the press.

A great reminder of the people, passion and dedication that make such a difference every day. 👏

🌱 Positive Risk-Taking: Supporting People to Keep Living

Positive risk-taking means looking beyond what could go wrong and also considering what a person may lose if they are prevented from doing something that matters to them.

Preparing a simple meal, taking a walk, spending time in the garden or continuing a familiar routine may involve some risk—but these activities can also provide purpose, confidence and enjoyment.

With thoughtful planning, the right support and regular review, many risks can be reduced without taking away the person’s independence.

Because good care shouldn’t make someone’s world smaller. It should help them continue living the life they choose. ❤️

💙 Our Monthly Dignity in Care Round-Up 💙

This month, we chose Dignity in Care as our key area of focus. Throughout the month, we shared helpful information, developed our knowledge and reviewed our care plans to ensure dignity, respect and personal choice remain central to the support we provide.

We also had the privilege of welcoming Jan Burns MBE, Chief Executive of the National Dignity Council, to a special team meeting. Jan shared her specialist insight and encouraged open, meaningful discussions about how we can further embed dignity and compassion into everyday care.

To conclude the month, our team proudly pledged to become Dignity Champions and continue turning our learning into positive action. ❤️

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of catching up over coffee with one of our wonderful carers, who has now been part of the Carinyo Care team for three years. 💙☕️

She shared some lovely words about her journey with us, the support she has received from management, the relationships she has built with her colleagues and the experiences she has gained along the way. It was wonderful to hear how much being part of the team has meant to her.

We would also like to say a heartfelt thank you to her for three years of commitment, dedication and compassionate care. Your hard work and the difference you make to the people you support are truly valued and appreciated.

Here’s to many more happy memories and continued success for us all! 💙💛❤️
