Hip aeroplanes are one of my favourite exercises for improving hip mobility, balance, and pelvic control.
From an osteopathic perspective, optimal movement relies on the body working as a connected unit.
Restrictions or weakness around the hips can lead to compensations through the knees, pelvis, or lower back, potentially contributing to pain and dysfunction over time.
This exercise challenges the glutes, deep hip stabilisers, and core while improving hip rotation and single-leg stability—key components for efficient movement in everyday life and sport.
Regular practice can help improve movement quality, reduce unnecessary strain on surrounding joints, and build resilience through the whole kinetic chain.
