🎒 Back to school is a BIG transition…
We’re getting to that time of year again!
New teachers, new classrooms, different routines, earlier mornings, busy corridors, lots of noise… and sometimes a completely new school.
That’s a lot of change all at once ❤️
For autistic and ADHD children and young people, the transition back to school can feel particularly overwhelming.
You might notice they’re more tired, emotional or irritable than usual. They might need more reassurance, more downtime after school or simply a bit more time to adjust.
A few little things can make a big difference:
❤️ Start getting back into the school routine before the first day
❤️ Talk through what’s going to happen
❤️ Use pictures or a visual timetable if that helps
❤️ Try not to overload those first few evenings
❤️ Give them somewhere quiet to decompress after school
❤️ And give them time to find their feet again
They’ve gone from weeks of one routine straight into another - it’s a big adjustment.
Be patient, keep things as predictable as you can and remember that settling back in might take a little while ❤️
