🎉 We’re 3! 🎉

This September marks three years since The Specialist Mental Health Nurse opened its doors ❤️

And what an incredible three years it has been.

What started with a vision of providing compassionate, professional autism and ADHD assessments has grown into a service supporting children, young people, adults and families.

Behind every assessment is a person looking for answers, understanding and support.

We’re incredibly grateful to every person and family who has trusted us, recommended us, followed our journey or supported TSMHN along the way.

Three years of listening, learning, understanding and supporting ❤️

Here’s to the next chapter ☕️🌱💫🌻❣️

This is the key to unlocking your safety & sanity in times of emotional dysregulation 🛟 🗝️🌻
.. But it's not easy.

With the support of a peer, friend, therapist or clinician you can practice techniques when calm, relaxed & even have a laugh whilst doing so.

What DBT skill's will you practice today? 🧡🌅🛟🪇✨

DBTSkills. Module : Mindfulness.
We cannot stress the importance of this enough. Don't wait till overwhelm or crisis.. practice, practice, practice.
It may not work the first few times though we do soon get the hang of these skills...

🎒 Back to school is a BIG transition…

We’re getting to that time of year again!

New teachers, new classrooms, different routines, earlier mornings, busy corridors, lots of noise… and sometimes a completely new school.

That’s a lot of change all at once ❤️

For autistic and ADHD children and young people, the transition back to school can feel particularly overwhelming.

You might notice they’re more tired, emotional or irritable than usual. They might need more reassurance, more downtime after school or simply a bit more time to adjust.

A few little things can make a big difference:

❤️ Start getting back into the school routine before the first day
❤️ Talk through what’s going to happen
❤️ Use pictures or a visual timetable if that helps
❤️ Try not to overload those first few evenings
❤️ Give them somewhere quiet to decompress after school
❤️ And give them time to find their feet again

They’ve gone from weeks of one routine straight into another - it’s a big adjustment.

Be patient, keep things as predictable as you can and remember that settling back in might take a little while ❤️
