🌱 Growth is often uncomfortable - sometimes even realising that you’ve been prioritising somebody else else’s needs over your own take time.

Conditioning from society around sacrifice, add in some career ladder BS and a rather unhelpful joke about maternity leave being ‘a holiday’ and your return to work has got you feeling like you’ve got to prove yourself…

Coaching is way of bringing you back home to yourself. It’s a way to take a look at what’s driving you, where your passion and purpose is best channelled, and ultimately helps you stop putting someone else’s needs before your own.

I want everyone to win, but we aren’t sacrificing our joy, love of life and motivation for the benefit of someone pale, male and stale here baby!

🌿 F I V E Y E A R S O N

Five years of births, retreats and one very full inbox later, I've made some big decisions - as a practitioner, and as a family.

We're relocating to North Wales in the summer, and the shape of the work at Journey Ahead as a result will look a bit different as I settle my family and we adjust to the change.

As a result - birth bookings are open until June before books close for the time being. What comes next is bigger than birth alone.

✨ wow what a day!

Still landing after such and incredible day hosting the Compass Retreat for ten wonderful human beings.

It was such a joy to bring a self love workshop to people who show up so intentionally for other people, and to curate a day where women could be their playful, creative selves.

We laughed, we stretched, we cried, we ate, we painted.

A whole day nourishment for some amazing women, and a total joy to invite practioners I deeply respect to support me too (thank you again Helen + Rachel, and Natassaja).

If you feel a lil bit of FOMO (I don’t blame you 😜) then be sure to check out the next one; we gather again on Nov 29th ✨

For years I did the small things.

The early cup of tea before anyone woke. The walk I took the long way round. The little private rituals I kept for myself, tucked into the edges of days that mostly belonged to other people. I thought that was what showing up for myself looked like. Crumbs. Lovely crumbs, but crumbs.

This year was different. This year I started taking myself on dates.

I mean it properly. Actual solo dates. A coffee I sat down for instead of drinking in the car. A film, on my own, no one to check in with. A walk with nowhere to be. A meal I ordered exactly how I wanted it because there was no one else to please. Time that was mine, chosen on purpose, not scraped from what was left over.

And something happened that I did not expect.

I fell into a kind of love with myself I had genuinely never felt before. Not the affirmation-in-the-mirror kind. The real kind. The kind that comes from spending actual time with someone, learning them, choosing them again and again. It turns out I am good company. It turns out I had been waiting a long time for me to show up.

Here is what I know now that I wish I had known sooner: the love you have been hoping someone else would finally give you, the attention, the prioritising, the being chosen, you can give it to yourself. And when you do, something in you settles that has been unsettled for years.

Take yourself on the date. Sit down for the coffee. Book the retreat day.

You are allowed to be the person who finally chooses you.

Can I tell you the part of the retreat I'm most excited about? It isn't the yoga. It isn't the sound bath, gorgeous as it'll be.

It's the women.

Because I know the kind of woman who books a day like this. She's not booking it lightly. She's the one who holds everything together, who rarely stops, who had to talk herself into the idea that she was allowed to come at all. She's thoughtful. She's been through things. She's further along than she gives herself credit for.

Now put a room full of those women together for a whole day.

Something happens that no session on the timetable can take credit for. Women start to recognise each other. Not "what do you do," small-talk recognition. The real kind. The "oh, you too?" kind. The exhale of realising you are not the only one carrying what you carry.

That's the thing about gathering women who've done the work. They don't just rest beside each other. They see each other. They remind each other of things they'd forgotten. They go home changed, and not only by the sound bath.

You won't just have a day for yourself. You'll spend it among women who get it, in a room that holds all of you at once.

Two of those seats are still open. One of them might be yours.

This is the last call for The Compass Retreat.

Three seats became the deadline. Friday is the day. After this week, the page comes down and that's that until the next one in November.

A version of this day sold out last year. It's nearly gone again, because it turns out a lot of women are quietly desperate for permission to stop.

If that's you, this is your sign, your nudge, and your last chance, all in one.

Two seats. Maybe one by the time you read this.

Go on. Link in bio.

Calm birth has been sold to you as two things: breathe deeply, and write a good birth plan.

And look, both matter. The breath is real. The plan is worth doing. I'd never tell you otherwise.

But if that's where the preparation stops, you've been handed the top layer and told it's the whole cake.

Because a calm birth isn't built in the ten deep breaths. It's built in everything underneath them. It's built in the fears you actually named instead of swallowed. In the "what if" conversations you let yourself have out loud. In understanding your choices so deeply that when the plan changes, and it might, you don't come undone, because you were never clinging to the plan in the first place. You were rooted in something steadier than that.

It's built in the layers. The ones nobody puts on a checklist.

And the most important layer of all? The room you choose for yourself.

Not just the walls. The people. Who you let in. Whose energy you allow near you on the most open day of your life. Whether the hands reaching for you are ones you trust. Whether the room holds you, or whether you spend the whole time quietly managing everyone else in it.

You can breathe perfectly in a room that doesn't feel safe. It won't be enough.

Choose the room. That's the prep that changes everything.

Let me tell you about the women I work with.

They've read the books. All of them. They've got the podcast queue, the saved posts, the folder of articles, the notes app full of things they didn't want to forget. They have done the work. Nobody could accuse these women of not being prepared.

They're grafters. They've locked in, committed, taken it seriously from the start.

So when they come to me, it's never because they don't know enough. They know plenty. It's because knowing is not the same as being held while you make sense of it.

Here's the thing the books can't do: they can't sit with you. They can't hear the specific fear underneath your question. They can't notice the thing you didn't quite say. They can't meet you in the grey, in-between, real-life bit where the neat information suddenly has to become your decision, in your body, in your actual life.

That's where I come in. Not the textbook part. The space between the textbook parts.

The women I work with often describe it as a deep exhale. And I understand why. They've been carrying all this knowledge on their own, holding it, revising it, wondering if they've got it right. Working together is the moment they finally get to put it down on the table between us and go: okay. Help me understand what this actually means for me.

We meet in the in-between. In the discussion. In the understanding. In the connection that lives past the last page of the book.

If you're one of the grafters, you already know who you are.
