Daisy, Daisy, Grief Cafe

Daisy, Daisy, Grief Cafe A Grief Support Group in Matlock, Derbyshire, for anyone who feels alone in their loss.

Hello, I'm Yvonne and I'm so pleased to be able to set up this grief support group and make it available to anyone in the area who is experiencing loss. I'm a Bereavement Counsellor at Daisy Vision Counselling, and realise it can be really lonely trying to deal with loss. It's often hard to find anyone that understands what you're going through, but this group will provide an opportunity to have a

cuppa and a chat, and to talk to others who may have the same difficulties, or even have found ways to overcome those difficulties. Daisy Vision Counselling is sponsoring the group, enabling it to be free to those who attend.

Just a reminder that we will NOT be meeting on the second Tuesday in August, so our next meeting will be TUESDAY 25th AUGUST - the 4th Tuesday in the month of August.

We will meet at 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm at All Saints' Church Hall.

We start with a drink and a biscuit and the chance to chat with and get to know others in the group.

We than have a circle time, and a focus for the meeting. There is no pressure to join in, you can just listen if you would prefer, but we do have some lovely circle times. Our group is very welcoming, and everyone is very understanding and supportive - it's a privilege to be there for such amazing men and women.

There is no charge but donations are appreciated.

Everyone who is dealing with grief and loss, not matter how recent or how long ago, is welcome.

Best wishes,
Yvonne.

Our next meeting is this Tuesday, 28th July.

I mentioned last time that we will not be meeting on the second Tuesday in August, due to summer holidays, but will be back again as normal on Tuesday 25th August.

With this in mind, our focus for our meeting on Tuesday, is discussing setting a personal goal or task for the afternoon we'll not be meeting - something to still look forward to, to give a sense of hope, something to aim for.

It could be meeting a friend for a coffee, or going out for a picnic, it may be planning a day out with family or friends, or if you're not feeling like meeting up with others, promising yourself some time on your hobby or interest - painting, craft work, playing a musical instrument or singing, going for a walk in a favourite spot, or it may even be more specifically connected with your loss, visiting a grave, or natural burial ground, to find some comfort and connect with your loved one.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Yvonne.

We meet again this Tuesday, 14th July and our focus is on 'moving forward rather than moving on'.

Many of us have felt under pressure to 'move on' but how do you feel about finding a way to move forward?

There will be opportunity to talk about our experiences of moving forward, coping strategies, etc. but also our difficulties.

Come and have a cuppa and chat with others that understand.

See you soon,
Yvonne.

Hello,

I just wanted to remind everyone that we meet next Tuesday 14th July as it will be the 2nd Tuesday in the month.

It can be easy to get caught out and think we meet each other Tuesday but as July started on a Wednesday, but this isn't the case this time.

So see you next Tuesday.

Yvonne.

Just a reminder that we next meet on 14th July at 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm. Our venue is All Saints' Church Hall on Smedley Street, Matlock.

We will meet informally as we chat over a drink and a biscuit and then we have a circle time with a specific focus. Although this provides an opportunity to talk about personal experiences of grief there is no pressure to do so - it's okay just to listen if you prefer.

Our focus this time is "You don't have to move on, its okay to move forward at you own pace".

Have you been told to move on and felt judged for not doing? Do you feel that you have in some way moved forward yet or are you feeling stuck? It's okay to share how it feels for you because by talking about it we can find we begin to heal.

I was inspired by the words of David Kessler, co-author with Elisabeth Kubler-Ross of "On Grief and Grieving" which I heard recently and am passionate, as he is, about allowing people to grieve in their own way:

"I wish more people knew this - nobody moves on after their loved one dies. That's not the goal. When you're in grief, people say to move on or get over the people who have died or to recover. When our loved one dies we don't move on. Maybe we move forward in life with them, but I don't think we ever recover ... they weren't a cold or a flu that we need to recover from. People in grief don't wanna forget their loved ones who have died or move on and people don't have that kind of choice. In fact, I think we're gonna carry them with us, whether others acknowledge it or not. To me the real goal is to remember them with more love than pain, but in our own time, and in our own way."

So, see you then,
Yvonne.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our group on Tuesday and participated. I know it's often difficult to share but I'm glad you find it a safe place to do so and am glad that so many of you say how helpful it is to have this time together.

I've posted here the words that were shared by someone on Tuesday afternoon, that I thought are so apt when we are grieving and I know had helped a number of you.

Best wishes
Yvonne

Tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd June) we're going to share about how we find comfort in our loss:

You can tell us about someone who helps comfort you, or you may want to bring along and show us, something that comforts you, as you grieve: it may be something that belonged to your loved one that you treasure, a favourite photo of them, something they made, or you've made or done to help you with your loss.

I've not tried to be too specific this time, to give you freedom to share from your personal experience.

If you haven't found something that comforts you yet, please come along - it may help to think of something that could help comfort you in your grief.

See you soon,
Yvonne.

Hello,

Just a reminder that we meet again next Tuesday, 23rd June, at 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm, at All Saints' Church Hall.

We start with a drink, a biscuit and a chat before having a circle time, with an opportunity to join in, or just listen if you'd prefer.

This time our circle time focus will be:

What brings you comfort when grieving for your loved one?

You can tell us about someone who helps comfort you, or you may want to bring along and show us, something that comforts you, as you grieve: it may be something that belonged to your loved one that you treasure, a favourite photo of them, something they made, or you've made or done to help you with your loss.

I've not tried to be too specific this time, to give you freedom to share from your personal experience. If you haven't found something that comforts you yet, please come along - it may help to think of something that could help comfort you in your grief.

To find out more about our group you can ring me on 07726 465229 or email me, [email protected].

See you soon,
Yvonne.

The other day someone asked me why our grief support group is named "Daisy, Daisy, Grief Cafe". When we first launched the group we made a video showing how the logo of two daisies chatting came about, but as many of you may not know about the original design of the logo, I thought I'd share it again:

Daryl had shared this on the "Daisy, Daisy - The Tandem Restoration Project" page, the tandem having played a big part in getting the word out, especially at our launch in Hall Leys Park in the centre of Matlock, on May 11th, 2024.

There's probably more to explain, like why daisies anyway, but that may be for another day. ๐Ÿ˜„

Here is "Afterglow" that inspired our focus for the circle time next Tuesday. I hope this helps you, even if it only brings a glimmer of comfort.

I have been asked why I named this page The Afterglow. It was inspired by this poem I found after my mom passed. She cut it out of a magazine. I can imagine her saying it to us. ๐Ÿงก
