The Margaret Kerr Unit is an In-Patient Specialist Palliative Care Unit at the Borders General Hospital. We’re here at the foot of the main stairs in the BGH all day today for Demystifying Death Week.
Please come and say “Hello”, contribute to the conversation, pick up a leaflet or two, add a song to our bereavement playlist.

Join us on May 5th in a relaxed, creative space where you can mark memories in your own way. Drop in for pebble painting, memory tile making and other activities.
You can also add a song to our bereavement playlist, enjoy hot drinks, and some calm.

On Friday May 8th, 10am-12pm we are having a Grief Ceilidh. A coming‑together — not a dance — but a space to share stories, music, songs and listening.
Come as you are. You’re welcome to bring an instrument, or simply sit and take part in whatever way feels right for you.

Also in May 8th we will have an information stand in the BGH. Drop by throughout the day to find out more about local support around death, dying and bereavement. Staff from Specialist Palliative Care, Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) and Scottish Grief Cafés will be there to chat, share information or simply say hello.

We have also found a pair of glasses over by the couch area if these belong to anyone?

We have noticed recently that people have been painting their own pebbles and adding these to the pebble patch outside the unit, these look amazing and thank you for contributing! - but if you would like to add to the patch please bring your pebble into the reception area and we can varnish them before being placed outside. This ensures that your lovely designs last longer!💜

Thank you, everyone🥰

Thank you to everyone that came along to our ‘to absent friends festival 2024’ event! 💜

If you painted a pebble, these are now on display in the pebble patch just outside of the unit.

Keep an eye on this page for more information coming soon for our Christmas event👀
