RUNNING A SMALL BUSINESS 💪

No work. No income.

A lot of people think running your own business means picking your own hours, taking time off whenever you want, and answering to nobody.

The reality is a little different.

You don’t just get busy by chance. Your incentive is to work hard, provide a great service, be professional, reliable, and consistent so that you stay busy and keep your business sustainable.

As a PT, there’s a lot more to the job than the hour spent training a client. There’s planning programmes, scheduling sessions, checking in with clients, answering messages, sorting out payments, marketing, and keeping everything organised behind the scenes.

Business doesn’t always go smoothly either. Last week my car got a flat tyre and had to go into the garage, which meant cancelling a full afternoon and evening of clients. That’s income lost straight away and a reminder that things don’t always go to plan.

That said, I wouldn’t change it.

The best part is helping people get stronger, move better, improve their health, and achieve things they never thought possible.

I also appreciate everyone who supports small businesses. If people didn’t support independent businesses, there wouldn’t be any left. Whether it’s your local PT, café, fruit and veg shop, hairdresser, physio, or independent retailer, every booking and purchase makes a difference.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support my business and trust me with their health and fitness goals. It never goes unnoticed. 🙌💪

Thanks for everything you do. You spend all day managing people at work and then come home and keep us all in check as well.

Life is never boring with you around and I love making memories together as a family. Every week is eventful and there’s never a relaxed moment, but we always have a laugh and a good time along the way.

I’ll let you off for hijacking Father’s Day this year! 😂

CHALLENGE YOUR BODY 💪

You can have the best workout plan in the world, get 8 hours of sleep every night, and fuel your body with great nutrition.

But a lot of progress comes down to mindset and effort.

You have to be willing to push yourself, step outside your comfort zone, and challenge your body.

If every workout feels easy and you’re never asking your body to do more than it’s done before, why would it need to change?

Whether your goal is to get stronger, improve your fitness, lose weight, or simply feel better, there has to be a training stimulus that encourages your body to adapt.

That doesn’t mean every session needs to leave you exhausted, but it does mean training with intent and giving your best effort when it matters.

Challenge your body.
Challenge your mind.
Stay consistent.

That’s where results come from. 💪

BUILD GOOD HABITS 💪

Good health isn’t usually about one big change.

It’s the small habits you repeat every day that make the biggest difference over time.

✅ Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables, protein, and complex carbohydrates.

✅ Do regular resistance training to keep your body strong, stable, and capable for everyday life.

✅ Include mobility work to help you move better, improve posture, and keep your joints feeling healthy.

✅ Prioritise sleep so your body can recover, recharge, and give you the energy you need for the next day.

You don’t need to be perfect.

Focus on building habits you can stick to consistently and let the results take care of themselves.

Small actions. Repeated consistently. Big results over time.

WHY I STILL RUN 🏃‍♂️

Personally, I think weight training should be a priority.

If your movement is good, your strength is good, and your body feels strong and functional, then everything else in life feels easier.

That being said, I still enjoy getting outside and running.

I’ve pretty much run all my life. From playing rugby since I was 6 years old, running has always been part of my training. Through junior rugby, professional rugby, pre-seasons, conditioning sessions, and now staying fit after retirement, running has always been there.

For me, a 10k run is a chance to switch off, get some fresh air, clear my head, and have a break from being in the gym every day.

I don’t believe fitness has to be one thing. The gym builds strength, resilience, and a body that’s capable of doing more. Running is just one way I choose to use that fitness outside of the gym.

Whether it’s running, cycling, swimming, football, rugby, padel, or simply being active with your family, having a strong and healthy body makes it all more enjoyable.

Get strong in the gym. Then go and enjoy what your body can do. 💪🏃‍♂️
Also it’s nice to run round hale where it is flat … not like saddleworth 🧗‍♂️
