Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, yet diagnosis still takes years on average.

That delay isn’t just frustrating.
It’s exhausting.
Physically and emotionally.

Symptoms can include:

• Severe period pain
• Pain during ovulation
• Pain with intimacy
• Chronic fatigue
• Bowel or bladder changes
• Pelvic pain outside your cycle

And yet many women are told:

“It’s just bad periods.”

If you are struggling, you are not dramatic.
You are not weak.
And your pain is not imaginary.

Awareness is the first step toward earlier diagnosis and better support.

WHY GUT HEALTH MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK

When we think about an allotment, we often picture rows of fresh vegetables, colourful flowers and the satisfaction of growing our own food.

But did you know that what we eat has a huge impact on our gut health, and in turn, our overall wellbeing?

Your gut is home to trillions of bacteria, collectively known as the gut microbiome. These bacteria play an important role in:

✨ Supporting your immune system
✨ Aiding digestion
✨ Producing certain vitamins
✨ Influencing hormone balance
✨ Even affecting your mood and mental wellbeing

A healthy gut thrives on variety. Eating a diverse range of fruit, vegetables, legumes, wholegrains and fermented foods helps to feed the beneficial bacteria that support your health.

National Allotment Week is the perfect reminder that good health often starts with simple choices.
Whether you grow your own vegetables, visit a local farm shop or simply try adding an extra portion of colourful vegetables to your meals, every small change helps.

Looking after your gut is another way of looking after your hormones, your immune system and your long-term health.

Diagnosis delay for endometriosis averages years.

That’s years of pain.

Years of being dismissed.

Years of wondering if it’s “in your head.”

It’s not.

WHEN INTIMACY BECOMES UNCOMFORTABLE

Intimacy should never be something you dread.

Yet for many women, particularly after having a baby or during menopause, discomfort during s*x becomes something they quietly put up with.

The most common reason?

Hormonal changes.
Lower oestrogen levels can cause the vaginal tissues to become thinner, drier and less elastic.

This can lead to:

• Vaginal dryness
• Burning or irritation
• Pain during intimacy
• Reduced confidence
• Avoiding closeness altogether

The emotional impact can be just as significant as the physical symptoms.
Many women worry something is "wrong" with them or feel embarrassed to bring it up.
But these symptoms are incredibly common, and importantly, they are treatable.

Following an assessment, treatments such as Estriol 1mg/g vaginal cream may be appropriate for some women, helping to restore comfort and improve quality of life.

No woman should feel she has to simply "put up with it."
Because comfortable intimacy matters.

Talking to Nikki about our fertility challenges felt like I was being heard for the first time in a very long time. She was professional throughout, not only applying her medical knowledge, but also empathy and a genuine desire to understand my own thoughts and feelings towards next steps.

I’m so happy to say that thanks to Nikki’s help, two months later we fell pregnant with twins and are now past the 12 week mark with low risk NIPT. For the first time in a very long time we didn’t have a Miscarraige in those early weeks.

I can’t thank her enough. No request has been too big and she’s continued to issue repeat prescriptions when the NHS refused to, despite it putting the babies at risk.

YOUR POSTNATAL CHECK IS ABOUT YOU TOO

The arrival of a new baby changes everything.
Appointments become centred around feeding, weight checks, vaccinations and routines.

But somewhere amongst all of that...

How are you?

Your postnatal check isn't just a routine appointment.
It's an opportunity to talk about:

✨ Your physical recovery
✨ Your emotional wellbeing
✨ Pelvic floor symptoms
✨ Bladder and bowel changes
✨ Breastfeeding challenges
✨ Contraception
✨ Intimacy

Too often, women leave these appointments thinking of all the questions they forgot to ask.
Or they minimise their own symptoms because they're focused on caring for everyone else.

Your recovery matters.

Looking after yourself isn't taking attention away from your baby.
It's helping you be the healthiest version of yourself for both of you.
