Do You Know The History of Pall Bearers?

The role of a Pall Bearer is one of the oldest and most respected funeral traditions. The term “Pall Bearer” originates from the word “Pall”, a richly decorated cloth once draped over a loved one’s coffin during the 12th Century. Historically, those chosen to carry or hold the edges of the Pall during the funeral procession became known as Pall Bearers. In some traditions and places, the use of a Pall over the coffin continues to this day.

Over centuries, the tradition evolved, and today the term refers to those entrusted with carrying their loved one’s coffin. It is considered a great honour, with family members and close friends often wishing to accompany their loved one on their final journey.

If you would like to be a Pall Bearer for your loved one, we will be there to support you every step of the way. Our experienced team will guide you through what to expect, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident as you take part in this special final farewell. 🤍

Today, it was our privilege to care for the funeral of the late Jonathan George. A respected former Headmaster and talented Artist from Wolverhampton.

Led by our Funeral Director, Mark Robson, the service took place at Mercia Forest Crematorium, where family and friends gathered to celebrate Jonathan’s life. As the sun shone brightly throughout the service, it created a peaceful and beautiful setting one that felt worthy of a painting Jonathan himself might have created.

We are honoured to have been entrusted with helping his family say their final farewell. Our thoughts remain with everyone who knew and loved Jonathan. 💙
