Holistic Therapy: Treating the Whole Person

Holistic therapy looks beyond symptoms.

Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with you?” it asks, “What’s happening for you?”

Because the body, mind, emotions, energy, lifestyle, and nervous system are all connected.

Poor sleep affects mood.
Stress affects digestion.
Emotions affect the body.
Physical pain affects mental wellbeing.

Everything influences everything.

This is why holistic therapies focus on the whole picture rather than a single piece of the puzzle.

Whether through massage, Reiki, breathwork, nervous system support, coaching, or self-recovery practices, the goal is not simply to relieve symptoms but to create greater balance throughout the entire system.

Healing is rarely about one thing.

It’s about understanding the connections, listening to the body’s messages, and supporting the person as a whole.

At Soulstar, every treatment begins with the understanding that you are more than your symptoms. You are a whole person, worthy of being seen, heard, and supported.

There comes a moment in every self-recovery journey when the questions get quieter.

Not:
Am I doing enough?
Am I achieving enough?
Am I giving enough?

But simply:

Am I enough for me?

Holistic health begins when we stop measuring our worth through productivity, perfection, or the approval of others. It begins when we learn to listen to the wisdom of our body, honour the messages of our nervous system, and reconnect with the parts of ourselves we abandoned in order to belong.

At Soulstar, self-recovery is not about fixing what is broken.

It is about remembering what has always been whole.

Through breathwork, massage, energy work, nervous system support, movement, rest, and self-compassion, we create space to come home to ourselves again.

Because healing isn’t found in becoming more.

Sometimes healing is found in believing that who you are, right now, is already enough.

And perhaps that is the only question worth answering.

Are you enough for you?

Wellbeing Is Built in the Small Moments

We often think wellbeing is something we achieve.

A destination.
A goal.
A place we’ll arrive once everything is sorted.

But wellbeing isn’t found in the perfect morning routine, the perfect diet, or the perfect life.

It’s built in the small moments.

The deep breath before reacting.
The walk in nature after a difficult day.
The glass of water.
The early night.
The laughter with friends.
The five minutes of stillness.
The choice to rest when your body asks for rest.

These moments may seem insignificant on their own, but together they create the foundation of a healthier, happier, more resilient life.

Wellbeing is not about perfection.

It’s about consistently choosing small acts of self-care that remind your mind, body, and nervous system that you matter too.

One small choice today can change how tomorrow feels.

Massage & The Journey Back to Yourself

Massage is so much more than easing tight muscles.

Our bodies hold the stories of our lives. Stress, responsibility, grief, overwhelm, people-pleasing, burnout they all leave their imprint somewhere within us.

Massage creates an opportunity to pause and listen.

To notice the tension you’ve become accustomed to carrying.
To feel the places you’ve disconnected from.
To soften the armour you’ve built to get through difficult seasons.

Each treatment is an invitation to come home to yourself.

Not because you are broken and need fixing, but because life can pull us away from our centre and massage helps us reconnect with the wisdom, awareness, and intelligence already within us.

Sometimes healing isn’t about doing more.

Sometimes it’s about lying still, breathing deeply, and allowing yourself to be cared for.

Your body remembers how to heal when given the opportunity.

Reiki & Trauma-Informed Practice

Reiki is often described as gentle, but true healing is not just about what we do it’s about how safe we make someone feel while we do it.

Being trauma-informed means understanding that every person who walks through my door carries a unique story.

Experiences from the past can live within the nervous system and influence how safe it feels to relax, receive touch, surrender control, or simply be present in their body.

A trauma-informed Reiki session honours choice, consent, pacing, and the wisdom of your own body. There is no pressure to “let go,” no expectation to revisit difficult experiences, and no need to be anything other than exactly who you are in that moment.

Reiki supports the nervous system by creating space for stillness, regulation, and reconnection. When the body feels safe, healing naturally unfolds in its own time and in its own way.

Healing doesn’t happen because we force it. Healing happens when we feel safe enough to receive it.

The body keeps score.”

I mention this phrase often, inspired by the book The Body Keeps the Score, because I see it, and witness it every single day. I see it in all areas of my work. Adults, children in the Zenden and out in my others work environments.

The moment someone walks into The Zenden, or into my space I am already listening. Already witnessing, already watching how they move

I don’t just to their words, but I sense into their body.

The way they stand.
The way they hold their shoulders. The tension in their jaw. The energy they bring into the room.
The places they’ve learnt to brace, protect, hold on and survive.

As a therapist, and body worker I am constantly creating a mind map. Connecting the dots between the physical body, the nervous system, emotions, experiences and the stories that may never have been spoken out loud.

The words you can’t say don’t always matter.
Because I see you. All of you. I hear the words you speak, and I hear the silences too.

If you want to unpack your suitcase and tell me your story, I will hold that space with compassion and curiosity.

If you want to keep it zipped up and simply lie on the couch, that’s okay too.

I don’t need every detail to understand what your body is trying to say. My hands they listen and they hear.

They find the places that need attention. The places that have been carrying too much for too long. The places where emotions, stress, grief, responsibility and survival have settled.

Massage is never just massage. It’s a conversation. A dance between therapist and client. Sometimes you lead. Sometimes I lead.

But together we move.
Away from pain. Away from holding. Away from survival.

And gently towards ease, release, embodiment and a deeper connection with yourself. Because healing isn’t always about telling the story.

Sometimes it’s about finally feeling safe enough to let the body stop carrying it.

I woke this morning high on life after last night’s breathwork session with Phoenix Fire Breath.

I love all things breathwork, but finding in-person sessions locally that work from a place of heart, love, safety and genuine connection has often been difficult. Most of my experiences in recent years have been in a big city or online. Whilst online sessions can be incredible, there is something electric about being in a room with others, feeling the energy, connection and collective intention.

Last night’s facilitator completely blew my mind.
The session was truly transformative, but what stood out most wasn’t the intensity of the experience. It was the safety that had been woven into every moment.

In a world where some breathwork facilitators seem focused on dramatic cathartic releases, this was different. There was no pushing, no forcing, no chasing an emotional explosion for the sake of a powerful testimonial.

Instead, there was regulation. There was coherent and functional breathing. There was movement. There was touch. There was education. There was embodiment.

There was a deep understanding of the nervous system and how to help people feel safe within their own bodies.

The result was extraordinary. People stayed within their window of tolerance and capacity. They weren’t overwhelmed. They weren’t retraumatised. They weren’t pushed beyond what their bodies were ready for.

The trust in that room both in ourselves and in each other was mind-blowing. That is the power of an experienced, trauma-informed facilitator.

Healing isn’t found in pushing someone so far beyond their window of tolerance that they’re screaming on the floor. More release does not automatically equal more healing. Healing is found in safety. Healing is found in witnessing. Healing is found in allowing the body to gently experience what it is ready to experience and release what it is ready to release.

Breathwork done well is one of the most powerful tools for transformation that I know. Last night was a beautiful reminder of that.

The freedom I feel today, the weight that has shifted, I can’t even fully explain where it came from. The tears came, and they came because I trusted. I felt safe. My nervous system was leading the experience rather than the ego of an instructor chasing a dramatic release.

Those dramatic stories might sound impressive in the moment, but real healing isn’t measured by how intense a session looks from the outside.

Real healing is measured by what remains afterwards. Today I feel lighter. Softer. More spacious. More me.

And that is the gift of breathwork facilitated from a place of love, safety and deep respect for the wisdom of the body.

Last night was so very aligned with my own Soulstar approach, which honours the body’s wisdom, nervous system safety, and the belief that healing happens through connection to self rather than force from others.

Massage & Self Recovery

When we think about self recovery, we often think about changing our thoughts, our habits, or our circumstances.

But true self recovery isn’t just about the mind. It’s about coming home to the body.

So many of us spend years living from the neck up, disconnected from the messages, wisdom and sensations that live deep within us. We become experts at ignoring our needs, pushing through exhaustion, and silencing the whispers of our body until they become shouts.

Massage offers an invitation to pause. To slow down. To listen.

As the body begins to soften, something beautiful happens. We move from thinking about ourselves to feeling ourselves. We begin to reconnect with our felt sense the subtle language of tension, ease, emotion, comfort and discomfort that tells us what is truly going on beneath the surface.

In that space, massage becomes so much more than relaxation. It becomes embodiment.

A chance to inhabit your body fully, to notice where you are holding on, where you are protecting yourself, and where you are ready to let go.

Self recovery is not always found in doing more. Sometimes it is found in being still enough to hear yourself again.
To feel your breath. To notice your heartbeat.

To reconnect with the person beneath the roles, responsibilities and expectations.

Massage can be a powerful part of that journey back to self.

A gentle reminder that your body is not something to fix or fight against.

It is something to listen to, trust and come home to.

What is your body trying to tell you today? Have you checked into yourself lately?

Self Recovery & Me

Self recovery, for me, is not just starting a new chapter. It’s starting a whole new book.

It’s not about pretending the past didn’t happen. It’s not about ripping out pages, denying the pain, or hiding from the stories that shaped me. Those chapters will always be part of my journey. I can open them when I need to, learn from them, honour them, and then gently close the book again. What I don’t do anymore is spend my life rereading the same chapter and expecting a different ending.

Self recovery is choosing me.

It’s saying “yes” to myself instead of automatically saying “yes” to everyone else.

It’s learning that rest is productive, boundaries are healthy, and my worth isn’t measured by how much I do for others.

It’s finding joy in ordinary moments. A sunrise. A paddle board. A laugh with a friend. A cup of tea in the garden. The things that cost nothing but mean everything.

It’s remembering how to laugh until my belly hurts and making sure I create more moments that make my soul feel alive.

It’s focusing on what I already have rather than what society tells me I’m missing.

It’s understanding that I don’t need to become someone else to be enough. I don’t need fixing. I don’t need perfecting. I simply need to remember who I was before the world told me who I should be.

Self recovery is coming home to myself.

It’s realising that life is happening now. Not when I lose weight. Not when I earn more money. Not when the timing is right. Not when everyone else is happy.

Now.

Because the greatest tragedy isn’t making mistakes. It’s standing on the sidelines of your own life, watching it pass by while waiting for permission to join in.

I don’t want to be a bystander in my own story.

I want to be the author.

What does self recovery mean to you? Are you still rereading old chapters, or have you started writing a new book?
