Just your morning reminder.

And what does “flexible” even mean?!

The real flex is :

✨ Moving your body in ways that feel good;

🧠 Helping your mind to settle and release mental chatter;

😮‍💨 Learning to use your breath to reset your nervous system;

💤 Improving your sleep;

🌍 Changing the way you feel in real life, on and off the mat.

These truly are the things I love to see in class 💫🧡✨

🧘‍♀️Someone adjusting their own movement or position according to their own range of movement, body or energy levels that day. Sometimes that means easing out of a posture; or coming to child’s pose or another resting position; using blocks and props to support the body. Tapping in to our own intuitive movement. It’s all good with me.

💫 The eye pillow coming out for savasana; and maybe the pillow. And the bolster. And the blanket 💫 I love the commitment to meditation this shows - truly preparing for stillness and embracing this part of practice.

🥰 Not strictly a “see-ing” more a hearing, but I love the chatter and conversation of mat-mates before and at the end of practice 🫶 building community is at the heart of my practice

🧡 When someone comes at the end of class to tell me how their practice felt - the good, the bad and sometimes the ugly too.
When a practice felt good when they’d been debating coming at all; when they just couldn’t get their balance and felt frustrated; when a specific cue helped to unlock a posture.

Not the “advanced” poses or the pushing-through-it-at-any-cost; it’s the human connection of yoga on and off the mat ✨

Any of this sound familiar?!

🤕 Your back hurts
🙀 You feel stressed
🫥 You feel disconnected from yourself (and perhaps everyone in your life)
💨 It feels like there’s no time to exhale - literally and metaphorically
🦵You can’t stand on one leg anymore
🌏 You want to try something new, but don’t know where to start
🫠 Your mind races at 3am and can’t get back to sleep…

Yoga mightn’t be the perfect fix, but it *is* a great place to start. And for all my local peeps (Moseley and Kings Heath), come and try yoga with me:

For the bank holiday gardeners; the DIY-ers; the heavy lifters; the out-all-day-walkers…don’t forget to stretch it out!

When the weather is nice or it’s bank holiday (or the rare combo of the two), at least one person will tell me as they arrive at class the following week that they’ve dinked their back / hurt their shoulder / pulled a hamstring while gardening / out walking/ diy-ing (*delete as applicable).

Often unfamiliar or repetitive action is the culprit, and mostly, (obviously more serious injury aside) it’s nothing that a little gentle movement can’t help to ease.

Full body stretches, forward folds, arm and leg stretches, shoulder rolls are my go-to, plus a round of cat/ cows to ease an achy back. The epitome of intuitive movement.

As is always the way, I come home from teaching workshops and retreats with limited photographic evidence of the magic that has just taken place ✨💫🪄 but maybe that is the point, right?!

Saturday was wonderful ✨ working in collaboration with my talented friend and poet Liz Berry, to lead a group of busy women through a day of moving, dreaming, writing and resting.

We started with a gentle yoga practice; ate a truly delicious lunch together; took a meditative walk and gathered tokens from nature which inspired our writing; rested in an extended yoga nidra; and closed with cake, tea and chats in the sunshine.

😊 Getting-in-the-car selfie
✨ The Cart House, pure good vibes
💙 Meditation walk, big blue sky, observing nature and collecting tokens
✏️ Guided writing
💫 Gifted an anonymous blessing to close our practise

Not pictured, but absolutely delicious was lunch and afternoon tea, by the Cafe at The Fold (thank you Tammie and Amber) 🧡

If this sounds like your thing, follow me and Liz for details of our next Yoga and Journaling Retreat 🌱

Not quite sure why I was finding it so hard to lay my mat out 🙃 but the point’s the same.

Yoga
Stillness
Movement
Breath
Meditation
No distractions ✨💫✨

I hear this all the time.
“But I’m not flexible enough for yoga!”
Honestly though, being able to touch your toes (or not) has nothing to do with it!

Interest, commitment, discipline are all needed in greater quantity than flexibility.

✨ Moving with your intuition
✨ Connecting to your breath
✨ Moving in ways that feel good and create space in both your body *and* mind

This is what makes a fruitful practise.
And the flexibility, ease in movement, confidence, better balance all comes with it.

If you’d like to practice yoga with me in real life, my next term of yoga starts on 14 April at Cambridge Road Methodist Church:

9.30am Slow Hatha Flow
11am Gentle Hatha
