What a fantastic night of fun-filled, action-packed cricket.

Last night our Community Reds Inclusion Blast Pirates cricket team were delighted to invite members of Special Olympics Sir Gâr to join us down at Port Talbot Town Cricket Club for 10 overs version of Kwick Cricket.

Special Olympics Sir Gar won the toss and put The Inclusion Blast Pirates into bat. After their 10 overs The Inclusion Blast Pirates hit 98 runs a total that was to appear very challenging for Special Olympics Sir Gar in their first ever game of cricket.

In their 10 overs Special Olympics Sir Gar batted bravely and gave a good account of themselves in there first ever competitive cricket match.

The game was a great showcase for Inclusion Sport and what the Community Reds Special Olympics Neath Port Talbot Programme is all about..

It was a fantastic night of how working together we can breakdown barriers and create opportunities for all.

One of the most pleasing aspects for me was the fantastic sportsmanship on offer with every one of the Inclusion Blast Pirates supporting and encouraging the Special Olympics Sir Gar players.

The Special Olympics athlete oath is: "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.

Last night demonstrated just what can be achieved. When people work and come together. Neath Port Talbot Special Olympics is just one of the exciting initiatives offering athletes with Learning Disabilities. The opportunity to train, play and represent this wonderful Brough

🏅 What a busy few weeks it has been behind the scenes at Special Olympics Neath Port Talbot!

Our Inclusive Cricket sessions, delivered in partnership with Port Talbot Pirates Cricket Club, continue to go from strength to strength. Working alongside BFL Community Reds and another community partner, we are hoping to introduce even more cricketing opportunities in the near future.

Through BFL Community Reds, we have recently acquired Indoor Short Mat Bowls equipment and are now looking to establish weekly inclusive sessions. To make this happen, we are currently searching for a suitable venue within Neath where training sessions and future league matches can be held.

We are also preparing to launch two exciting new activities:

🏈 Flag Football / Touch Rugby
We are looking for players with intellectual disabilities who would like to get involved in this fun, inclusive sport.

⚽ Inclusive Football Programme
Our new Social Walking Football sessions will provide weekly opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy walking football in a welcoming environment. Participants will also have the opportunity to represent Special Olympics Neath Port Talbot in the Regional Unified Football League and other competitions.

Working with both existing and new community partners, our aim is to continue growing Special Olympics Neath Port Talbot and provide more opportunities for inclusive sport and social activities across our community.

If you would like to find out more, get involved, or share your experiences and ideas, please send us a message or email [email protected].

We look forward to welcoming you to Special Olympics Neath Port Talbot, where together we can ensure that nobody is left on the bench

Saturday saw the AGM for the Cymru Special Olympics. Which as a potential new group we were invited to attend. It was a very interesting meeting with lots of points raised and the future structure for Cymru Special Olympics.

As we look to develop and establish our group here in Neath Port Talbot. Addressing the issues raised and developing our individual Special Olympics Sports Programme.

We are looking to develop a weekly activities club working alongside Community Sports Clubs providing opportunities for learning disabilities children and adults.

Football, Boccia, Athletics, Cricket, Flag Rugby are just some of the sports which we will be looking to provide as part of the Neath Port Talbot Special Olympic Programme.
