Online psychotherapy can offer a reflective and relational space without requiring you to travel to a particular location.

For some people, meeting online makes therapy easier to fit around work, family life, health, or other commitments. It can also allow you to choose a therapist whose approach feels right for you, rather than being limited by geography.

I offer depth-oriented online psychotherapy for adults across the UK. My approach makes room not only for difficulties and periods of change, but also for questions of meaning, identity, creativity, spirituality, and the direction of your life.

By Your Own Light - The title takes inspiration from the R.S.Thomas poem The Bright Field.

The poem suggests to me that we must be careful our attention is not consumed by a future that ultimately can only offer one certainty. Perhaps a sharpened awareness of what is already present within and without is what truly leads to renewal, lest we manage to lose our Self in the seeking of it.

Many wisdom traditions teach that the presence of true longing can only ever be for something that is already known in some way, and can be greeted as the resonance within an individual of a universal life, or the call of the divine.

I have seen the sun break through
to illuminate a small field
for a while, and gone my way
and forgotten it. But that was the
pearl of great price, the one field that had
treasure in it. I realise now
that I must give all that I have
to possess it. Life is not hurrying

on to a receding future, nor hankering after
an imagined past. It is the turning
aside like Moses to the miracle
of the lit bush, to a brightness
that seemed as transitory as your youth
once, but is the eternity that awaits you.

I am drawn to mountains, hills, and ancient earthworks because they have long been understood as thresholds between the human and the more-than-human, where the numinous is encountered through the material world. My work is informed by mythology, folklore, contemplative traditions, and enduring ways of relating to the Earth. The paintings grow from the possibility that the visible world discloses depths of reality held within its own material presence.

“Each person born has specific genius qualities and each has a calling that can lead to psychological growth and finding a genuine life purpose. Typically, the issue is not a lack of calling, the problem is hearing the call and heeding it amidst all the distractions and uncertainties of modern life.

A genuine life purpose is not an optional choice, but something set within our hearts waiting to be revealed. The struggles we encounter and the losses we suffer can open pathways to the center of the self where purpose waits to be found, where vitality can be renewed and where spirit whispers the nature of our calling in life. In critical times there can be an acceleration of calling that opens the pathways of genius and imagination that give life meaning and purpose, but that also can reveal our best ways of serving the world.”

The Soul has in its sights that which seeks to find expression through you, and demands the call is answered as best you can. Yet, the human being is caught between an insistence on creative freedom, and the Saturnian principles of limitation, whether they be personal, cultural, or material.

How do we reckon with this, whether as artists and creatives, or more generally seeking to find purpose and meaning through bringing the unique qualities of our being to the world? Often this will be experienced as an encounter with cold rejection, rather than welcoming embrace.

These are areas I help people to explore in Psychotherapy.

Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step.

Many people contact a therapist after a long period of reflection, uncertainty, or hesitation. Questions about whether therapy will help, what the process involves, or how to choose a therapist are all entirely understandable.

In my experience, uncertainty is rarely something that needs to be overcome before therapy begins. More often, it is something we can become curious about and explore together.

An initial consultation offers an opportunity to ask questions, discuss what brings you to therapy, and consider whether this way of working feels right for you. Further information and contact details can be found on my website.

Carl Gustav Jung often wrote with the intimacy of someone who had listened closely to the more-than-human world. In his reflections from Bollingen, the place where he built his tower along the shore of Lake Zurich, we glimpse a vision of the psyche that is not contained within the limits of the individual. Instead, it stretches, permeates, and participates in everything that lives. Jung’s writing here is not only philosophical but experiential. He is describing something lived, embodied, and felt.

This understanding of the psyche is closely related to what is often described as depth psychotherapy. If you are interested in exploring these themes in your own experience, you are welcome to get in touch to discuss working together.

Depth psychotherapy is interested not only in symptoms and difficulties, but also in meaning, imagination, relationships, recurring patterns, and the deeper movements of a person's life.

Rather than asking only how a problem can be removed, it asks what that experience might have to teach us.

A key ingredient of the way I work with people is to encourage a kind of non-judgemental curiosity about one's life. This is to ask, without self-absorption, 'what is the meaning of my life's journey?'

This approach draws on traditions such as Jungian psychology, psychoanalytic thinking, and other depth-oriented perspectives that include the transpersonal or spiritual aspects of experience.
