Men Tell is a men’s mental health campaign based in Newport, Wales. We exist because too many men struggle in silence. Through World Mental Health Day (10 October), community events and online conversation, we provide safe spaces for men to talk about:
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Trauma
• Isolation
• Suicide prevention
• Life pressures

Sometimes they need to sit down first—to feel warm, safe and welcome before they can ask for help.

👤 He told us he didn’t really need anything.

But he stayed for nearly an hour.

💔 His relationship had broken down.

🏠 He was sleeping in different places.

🔄 He was trying to avoid people and situations connected to his substance use.

🕰️ He said the hardest part was the middle of the day.

Too much time. Nowhere safe to be. Nobody expecting him.

☕ We made him a drink.

👂 We listened.

🗓️ We talked—not about everything that had gone wrong, but about what the next day could look like.

Through our core services, we could offer:

🍲 A warm meal through our Community Kitchen
☕ A welcoming place to sit and talk
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Skills & Volunteering opportunities when he felt ready
📱 Help finding specialist housing, mental-health and recovery services

Before leaving, he said:

💬 “I think I just needed somewhere to go.”

A cup of coffee cannot treat addiction. It cannot provide housing or replace professional mental-health support.

But a safe place, a human conversation and the right connection can help somebody take their next step.

✉️ Today, someone came into the hub holding a letter they had been carrying for several days.

They hadn’t opened it.

⚡ They were behind with their electricity.

🥫 There was very little food at home.

😟 They were frightened the letter contained another problem they couldn’t manage.

☕ We made a coffee.

🪑 They sat down.

🤝 Eventually, we opened the letter together.

It wasn’t just one problem. It was the bills, the empty cupboard, the anxiety—and the feeling that there was nobody to ask.

We couldn’t solve everything that day. But through our core services, we could help them take the next step:

👩‍👧 A parent came to us looking for food support.

As we talked, it became clear that food was only the most immediate problem.

💷 Money was running out.

🥫 The cupboards were nearly empty.

👶 The children needed clothes and essential items.

🧠 She was struggling with her mental health.

🚪 She was becoming increasingly isolated.

📱 She had been told that help was available online—but she didn’t know which website to use, who covered her area or where to begin.

She had a phone. She had internet access. What she didn’t have was a clear route through the system.

Through Feed Newport’s connected core services, we could offer:

📱 Help finding other appropriate support

People’s lives don’t arrive divided into neat categories. Poverty, food insecurity, isolation and mental health often overlap.

♻️ SHELVING DELIVERY ARRIVED

A major step forward for the Baby Basics Newport Community Reuse Hub.

Today, 10 September 2026, our new shelving arrived at 92 Commercial Street. This delivery moves the fit-out into its next stage, giving us the storage and sorting space needed to organise donated baby and children’s items safely and prepare them for reuse by local families.

The project is delivered by Newport Support Network CIC, trading as Feed Newport and Baby Basics Newport, with support from Newport City Council through the Reuse Newport Fund.

We’ll keep sharing real progress as the Reuse Hub takes shape.
