Oceanlight Yoga - The Practice of Gentle Undoing

Oceanlight Yoga - The Practice of Gentle Undoing Nurturing, soulful Yoga - shed tension, connect to your inner being and move with ease and joy Yoga can be so many things.

Oceanlight Yoga seeks to create a space for you to be in your own experience, to let go of daily pressures and tap in to a deeper you, where calmness, comfort and joy have the chance to grow. Maybe to touch an inner ocean, an ocean of breath and a lightness that can sparkle through into your daily life. Join me, Julia, on a journey to the very essence of yoga. Inspired by Vanda Scaravelli's instin

ctive approach. You will move your body in ways that feel good, creating space for breath and energy (prana) to flow. Giving room to your mind to let go, rest and recuperate. Inspired also by my mum who qualified as a Yoga teacher in the mid 80's, I've been involved with Yoga since my late teens and practised seriously for 20 years, qualifying with Linda Morley and the British School of Yoga's 500 hour 3 year diploma. Breathing practices, mudras, Yoga theory and philosophy are sensitively integrated into lessons and workshops. Most of all I hope to make Yoga fun and give you a refreshing way to experience the deep joy and wonders that it can instil.

Thanks to each one of you who came to my woodland spa retreat. What a glorious melding of movement and stillness; talking, laughing, resting and quiet.

Sharing important conversations and moments:
* finding joy as we age
* cultivating friendships that support us (and reducing those that don’t)
* being kind to the body and what that actually means at this stage of life
* breathing gently with our hearts and daring greatly with our choices

As women in our later chapters, this retreat was a reminder to fully embrace all those parts of us that get squeezed to the edges; to bring them back into the sunlight and give them space. To know in our bones that we still matter, that we have so much more to give, receive and experience. Life is here now.

How was your solar eclipse? Mine began with a Red Admiral butterfly...

As I settled onto a quiet outcrop overlooking the sea, a Red Admiral came to rest on the rock beside me.

Around fifteen minutes before the deepest part of the moon’s journey across the sun, my beautiful friend gently closed her wings.

And there she stayed.

Through the dimming of the light.
Through the stillness and strangeness of that suspended moment.
Beside me, yet entirely settled in her own experience.

Sometimes connection arrives in ways we could never plan. We only need to become still enough to notice.

A tiny wild creature and a human being, sharing a rock at the edge of the land as day was suspended and then returned.

We rested peacefully together until the light filtered back into brightness and her wings carried her away.

Afterwards, floating in the sea beneath the evening sky, I was struck as much by the quiet wonder of my butterfly friend as by the movement of the heavens. Life close by, in its smallest detail, felt every bit as profound as that mesmeric alignment in the sky.

Thank you, body for getting up so early. Into the still of the day, the tingling wonder of cool sparkling water, near silence, before the frenzy and woosh of school holiday crowds. A slow immersion, time floating. Returned to weightlessness where spirit speaks and mind drops away…

Do you know presence? Is it something you practice yourself? The ability to sit like the wild oak, steady alongside the rippling unpredictable eddies of life. To hold ground when others have lost theirs. To know so deep in your heart what suffering is and yet be open to the joy that arises when you stop holding, when you exhale… to arrive right into this moment just as it is.

For me to hold space that allows others to truly unravel, to be safe enough to utterly let go in body, mind and soul requires a total dedication.

To be present to myself, to lean into the places of tenderness and pain. To actively seek quiet, especially in the busyness of summer.

To slow down, find the ground of my own being, breathe. To feel and yet not lose myself to feeling.

It is endlessly fascinating, challenging, wisening. A relationship with Life. Last night at the river and this morning at the cove the moving water stilled me. The trees held ground. The rocks observed. I wonder where you go to return to yourself…

While people huddled round tv’s I just couldn’t help but be drawn by the sun and the promise of golden waves. The beach (almost) to myself. I met another wanderer seeking out a sacred ending to an ordinary day. She was born here, she said, and it always feels like coming home. We shared a knowing smile as sunbeams danced on our salty skin and the ocean soothed our limbs and minds. Choosing peace. Choosing connection. Letting time drift for just a while…

If you know me you probably already know my love of water, fire, sacred land, saunas and sunsets… big night skies, heartfelt conversations and finding precious places to gather. My new Woodland Spa Retreat in Somerset is a place for all this and more. I have just 2 rooms available and the details are in my bio. You can of course speak to me direct. It’s going to be very special and I would love to share it with you.

I know lots of us have been working over the bank holiday (in my case online yoga and hosting my art show which is open 11-5 daily till Sunday 31st). I hope whatever you’ve been doing that there’s been time for joy, pockets of laughter and moments of beautiful connection. Here are some photos from my early morning walk and swim today - my idea of heaven and I hope a little boost for you too. Cornwall sea swimming and coast.

When did you last carve out time, not to do but to be? Not to get things sorted but to let go. Not to change or improve yourself in some way, but to reconnect to the vital essence that already exists within you. Underneath the other demands of life, below the surface of what the world requires of you… This is your chance.

After the last few months that have seen a great personal loss, during which it felt wrong (impossible even) to be holding such space, I’m gently delighted to be able to open the doors again and welcome you in.

A roaring fire, the ti**le of Koshi Bells, the comfort of shared laughter and possibly a few tears. Women alongside women. The pleasure of slow and tender movement. The joy of pausing and breathing in the quiet of this place… Sunday 15th January we gather to release, reclaim and renew.
