Unresolved childhood trauma doesn't always look like flashbacks and nightmares. In adults, it often looks like this:

A constant, low-level anxiety that you can't quite explain. Difficulty trusting people, even those who have given you no reason not to. A harsh inner critic that never seems to quieten down. Feeling responsible for other people's emotions. Struggling to set boundaries without guilt. Feeling like you are always waiting for something to go wrong. Relationships that follow the same painful patterns, no matter how hard you try.

If any of these feel familiar, it doesn't mean something is fundamentally wrong with you. It means your nervous system learned to protect you in the best way it could β€” and it is still using those same strategies today, even when they are no longer needed.

EMDR therapy can help you update those old protective responses and create space for something different.

Save this post if it resonates, and share it with someone who might need to see it. πŸ“

"I used to be able to juggle everything. Now, the smallest thing tips me over the edge."

We hear this from clients every single week.

If you've always been the "strong one," the organiser, or the person who handles everything, perimenopause can feel incredibly destabilising. The loss of that resilience can lead to feelings of guilt and shame.

Please hear this: You haven't lost your strength. Your nervous system is just processing a massive transition. It is okay to put down some of the balls you are juggling. It is okay to ask for support.

If you're ready to rebuild your emotional resilience, we are here to help. Send us a DM or click the link in our bio. πŸ’Œ

Sometimes the heaviest things we carry are the ones we have been carrying the longest.

Childhood experiences β€” whether obvious trauma like abuse or neglect, or more subtle wounds like emotional unavailability, constant criticism, or growing up in an unpredictable home β€” shape the way our nervous system learns to respond to the world.

As adults, we often don't connect our anxiety, our relationship patterns, our self-doubt, or our sense of never being "enough" to what happened in childhood. We think: "It was so long ago. I should be over it by now."

But the nervous system doesn't work on a timeline. And the beliefs we formed about ourselves as children β€” I am not safe. I am not loveable. I am not good enough β€” can run silently in the background of our entire adult lives.

EMDR can help you gently revisit and reprocess those early experiences, and replace those old beliefs with something true: that you are safe, you are worthy, and you are enough. πŸ“

"I just want to feel like myself again."

This is the most common phrase we hear in the clinic. The loss of identity during menopause can trigger a profound grieving process. You are mourning the energy, the resilience, and the predictability of your past self.

Therapy isn't about forcing you back into who you used to be. It’s about helping you safely navigate the transition, so you can discover who you are becomingβ€”with stability, clarity, and self-trust.

You will feel like yourself again. It just might be a new, updated version. 🌱

Today I want to share something a little more personal. Behind Strawberry Fields Therapy, behind the psychology and the clinic, there is someone who makes it all possible: my husband.

He is the absolute definition of dedication, love, consistency, and patience.

Some time ago, he made a decision that takes an incredible amount of courage: he left a stable career as an engineer to dedicate his life to his true passion β€” surfing. Watching him build that dream has been the greatest proof to me that with hard work, consistency, and a clear vision, you really can achieve what you set out to do.

His life is driven by passion and movement β€” whether it's surfing, snowboarding, tennis, or more recently, golf. But what inspires me the most isn't just his love for sports; it's his resilience.

He has faced multiple knee injuries. He has almost no cartilage left in one of them. But he hasn't let that stop him. Instead of giving up, he adapts. He keeps taking care of himself, he keeps training, and he keeps finding ways to do what he loves.

As a psychologist, I talk to my clients every day about resilience, about adapting to our circumstances, and about pursuing what truly matters to us even when it's difficult. I am so lucky to live with someone who embodies those values every single day.

Thank you for being my anchor, my inspiration, and my biggest supporter. ❀️

One of the biggest fears people have about starting EMDR therapy is this: "Will I have to relive everything in detail?"

The answer is no. And this is one of the most important things to understand about EMDR.

You do not need to narrate your trauma in detail. You do not need to re-experience it fully. In fact, EMDR is specifically designed to help you process difficult memories without becoming overwhelmed by them.

We work carefully and at your pace. Before any processing begins, we spend time building your internal resources β€” your sense of safety, your grounding tools, your capacity to stay present. You are never left alone with a difficult memory.

EMDR is not about reliving the past. It is about finally being free of it.

If fear of the process has been stopping you from seeking help, please know: you are in safe hands here. πŸ“

Let's change the conversation around menopause. πŸ—£οΈ

For too long, the focus has only been on the physical symptoms. But for many women, the most challenging part of perimenopause is the psychological impact: the brain fog, the sudden rage, the tearfulness, and the panic attacks.

Your brain is literally rewiring itself during this time. Acknowledging this is the first step toward getting the right support.

What has been the most surprising symptom for you? Let's talk about it below. πŸ‘‡

We often wait for the fear to go away before we take action.
We think: "Once I feel confident, I'll set that boundary." "Once I'm not anxious anymore, I'll apply for that job." "Once I'm ready, I'll start therapy."
Here is the truth from the therapy room: The fear rarely goes away first.
Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is deciding that something else matters more than the fear itself. It is allowing your hands to shake, your heart to race, and taking the step anyway.
When you do the thing while you are afraid, you teach your brain a profound lesson. You teach it that you are capable of handling discomfort. You teach it that fear is just a feeling, not a stop sign.
You don't have to be fearless. You just have to be willing to take one small step forward.
What is something you are doing anyway, even though you are afraid? I'd love to hear about your courage below. πŸ“
