Deirdre Martin Counselling / Psychotherapy

Deirdre Martin Counselling / Psychotherapy Counselling / Psychotherapy / CBT / EMDR A professional, experienced, friendly and down-to-earth therapist. Or maybe have poor physical health?

I help people to manage difficulties they are experiencing and to bring about change in a warm, compassionate and safe way without judgement. Do you need help with very treatable issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma/PTSD, bereavement or loss, emotional or sexual abuse, childhood or workplace bullying, childhood/family issues or anger? Perhaps you want to stop people pleasing or to un

derstand the causes of your unhappiness? Do you want more time to yourself but never seem to manage to get it? I use a very person centred counselling approach combined with CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy - if we change our thinking we can change how we feel and behave ) and/or EMDR (highly effective trauma therapy). I work from a private and comfortable setting. I believe that when we are truly heard, understood and accepted, we can begin to free ourselves from and transform our pain, enabling us to live the life we often yearn for. I value our uniqueness as humans, our ability to grow and develop, connection, relationship and can help you find your own path in life.

Your younger Parts don’t need to be controlled.
They need to be held.

Sometimes the Part that feels needy, scared, angry, or overwhelmed is not trying to ruin your life.
It may be a younger Part carrying old pain or unmet needs.

IFS invites us to stop shaming these Parts and begin listening to them.

You might ask:

💙 How old does this Part feel?
💙 What does it need me to know?
💙 How can I be with it gently right now?

You don’t have to fix your younger Parts.
You can begin by helping them feel less alone.

With **IFS Guide**, you can explore younger Parts, journal what they’re carrying, and map the patterns that show up in your inner system.

Healing happens when Self becomes the leader — not the exile.

In IFS, exiled Parts often carry the deepest pain: shame, grief, fear, loneliness, or old wounds.

When an exile takes over, we may feel flooded, small, desperate, or overwhelmed.

But healing begins when Self can gently be with the exile without becoming swallowed by the pain.

You might ask:

💙 Can I notice this wounded Part without blending with it?
💙 What does it need me to understand?
💙 Can I bring even a little calm or compassion toward it?

Self-leadership does not mean ignoring pain.
It means holding pain with enough presence that the wounded Part does not have to lead alone.

For deeper support, our **IFS Basics Bootcamp + Exiles Bootcamp** can help you understand Parts, protectors, and safer ways to approach exiles.

My Depression Is Not Your Depression https://buff.ly/XaKDMOm

😰 Everybody's depression looks different and is unique to them.
🫨 One person's depression is not more legit than another person's because no one's mental health is like anybody else's.
🍎 🍑 It's comparing apples to oranges.

“I’ve noticed something about people who make a difference in the world: They hold the unshakable conviction that individuals are extremely important, that every life matters. They get excited over one smile. They are willing to feed one stomach, educate one mind, and treat one wound. They aren’t determined to revolutionize the world all at once; they’re satisfied with small changes. Over time, though, the small changes add up. Sometimes they even transform cities and nations, and yes, the world."

"The agony is great and yet I will stand it. Had I not loved so much I would not hurt so much. But goodness knows I would not want to diminish that precious love by one fraction of an ounce. I will hurt. And I will be grateful for that hurt for it bears witness to the depth of our meaning. And for that I will be eternally grateful." -
