Waiting on Rain.

I never anticipated that it could be too hot to walk, too hot to sleep and too hot to enjoy nature. The lack of rain has created a landscape that has lost its colour and familiarity.

I feel anxious when I see the dying plants and yellowing grass. Today, though, I noticed that I’m not the only one waiting for rain.

Please feel free to share your own photographs of waiting on rain. How is nature coping where you are?

Sometimes we forget that we are part of nature, not separate from it.

Ordinary deserves our attention, and today I noticed.

Feeling stuck taught me that I didn’t need a new world. I just needed to notice the one I already had.

It doesn’t have to be extraordinary. Sometimes it’s the common, everyday things that give us a little feel-good boost.

What will you notice today?

When my world became smaller I started here⬇️

After my last post, a few people asked me what helped me move forward when my world became smaller.

Honestly I’m no guru, I tried three small things.

🌿 1. I gave my day some structure.
Even though I often wanted to stay in bed, I got up at 6am each morning and went to bed around 11pm. That simple rhythm gave my days some shape again.

🌿 2. I spent 15 minutes connecting with nature.
Usually from my window or in the garden. I used all my senses to notice what was around me—the birds, the breeze, the colours, the scents. I wanted to remind myself to be grateful instead of grumpy

🌿 3. I walked.
Slowly. For at least ten minutes. I focused on my breathing and let my body move at its own pace, noticing something new each time. Who knew roadside weeds we’re so beautiful.

None of these things felt a huge task or ask.

But over time, they helped me feel less stuck, less contained.

Achieving something small each day, strangely gave me a big boost to my confidence. I now know it was a little dopamine hit.

If your world feels a little smaller than it once did, perhaps today, just open your window.

Take a slow breath.

Notice what you can see, hear, smell or feel.

If you try it, I’d love to hear how you get on.

For a while, I’ve been quiet on here.
Not because I wanted to be, but because life threw a few curve balls my way and, for a time, I simply didn’t have the energy to bat them back.

Today felt different.
I decided it was time to make my world a little bigger again. I surprised myself. I drove somewhere new, walked slowly, sat for a while, and appreciated not only the fact that I’d got over a bump in the road, but also how beautiful the world can be when we make the effort to notice it.

As I sit looking out across the River Tees, with Barnard Castle in the distance, I’m reminded how much comfort and perspective nature can offer.

I also find myself thinking about those who aren’t able to get out and explore places like this. If that’s you, I hope you can still find a moment of connection with the natural world today – perhaps through the air in your garden, the view from a window, the sound of birds nearby, or simply the changing light of the day.

Nature doesn’t ask much of us. Sometimes it simply waits for us to notice it’s there.

We spent the afternoon looking for bluebells… and ended up talking about dandelions.

Today our intention was to admire the bluebells — and we did.

But on the walk back to the car, someone stopped to fasten their shoe and noticed the dandelions.

We’d walked past them all morning without really seeing them.

So we paused.

We noticed their shape, how each one was slightly different, how they moved so lightly in the wind, how something so familiar could suddenly seem beautiful again.

And everyone smiled a little, as though we’d discovered something new — not just about the dandelions, but about ourselves too.

Beauty is often there quietly in the background, waiting for us to slow down enough to notice it.

Forest therapy offers space to slow down, notice, and experience the outdoors in a different way.

It was a Sunday, just like today.

Coffee in hand, feeling a bit off. Too much from the week before… already thinking about the next.

I remember thinking, I just need some fresh air.

So I went for a slow walk.

Nothing special — but I came back feeling lighter. Clearer. More myself again.

That stayed with me.

It led me to something called forest therapy (or forest bathing) —a simple way of being outdoors that helps you slow down and reset a bit.

It’s now what I gently guide others through.

Small, relaxed walks. No pressure. No expectations.Just time outside, at an easy pace, with a bit of guidance.

If that sounds like something you need right now, you’re very welcome to join.

I used to walk past things like this without noticing

Now I see beauty, strength, survival, something carefully built by hand - a journey started and life finding its way through it.

Slowing down and connecting with nature has given me a different perspective, helped me feel more settled… and less guilty about taking time for myself.

Maybe take a moment to pause and really look…and see where it takes you.

If you’d like to experience a slower, more connected way of being outdoors, feel free to message me.🌱
