💗July is Disability Pride Month 💗

This month is about recognising disability as a natural part of human diversity and celebrating the strength, creativity, and contributions of disabled people. It’s also a reminder that pride and accessibility go hand in hand because dignity, inclusion, and equal access should never be optional.

Pride is not about “overcoming” disability, it’s about challenging stigma, dismantling barriers, and valuing every person as they are.

Let’s keep working toward a world that is more accessible, more inclusive, and more just.

☀️ Heat Wave Safety Reminder ☀️

With temperatures remaining high, it's important that we all take steps to protect ourselves and those around us while working in schools and colleges.

💧 Preventing Heat-Related Illness
• Drink water regularly throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty
• Stay in shaded or well-ventilated areas whenever possible
• Wear light, loose-fitting clothing where appropriate
• Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day
• Take regular breaks and check in with colleagues

Please refer to the DOE website for further information https://educationhub.blog.gov.uk/2026/06/hot-weather-and-heatwaves-guidance-for-schools-and-other-education-settings/

There are several ways that schools can make changes to keep children safe in hot weather, especially as children are more at risk of becoming ill with heat-related issues than adults. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has published updated guidance

🌈 Autistic Pride Day 🌈

Today we celebrate Autistic Pride Day, recognising and valuing autistic people for who they are.

Autistic Pride Day promotes acceptance, inclusion, and understanding, while celebrating the unique strengths, perspectives, and talents that autistic people bring to our communities.

It's a reminder that being autistic is a difference, not a deficit, and that everyone deserves to feel respected, supported, and included.

💙 Celebrate neurodiversity. Listen to autistic voices. Embrace differences.

💙 Learning Disability week 15th-21st June 2026 💙

This year's theme, "Do You See Me?", encourages us to recognise and value children and young people with learning disabilities as individuals with unique strengths, aspirations, and potential.

This Learning Disability Week, let's raise awareness and challenge misconceptions about learning disabilities.

A learning disability is a reduced intellectual ability and difficulty with everyday activities that affects someone for their whole life. Learning disabilities can vary from mild to profound, and every person has their own strengths, abilities, and aspirations.

People with learning disabilities:
✅ Have the same rights as everyone else
✅ Can learn, work, build relationships, and contribute to their communities
✅ May need different types of support to achieve their goals

The stigma they face can include:
❌ Being underestimated or spoken to as if they are children
❌ Assumptions that they cannot make decisions for themselves
❌ Social exclusion, bullying, and discrimination
❌ Negative stereotypes about their abilities and potential

Barriers people with learning disabilities often experience:
🔹 Difficult to understand information and communication
🔹 Limited access to education, employment, and healthcare
🔹 Lack of reasonable adjustments and support
🔹 Physical and social environments that are not inclusive
🔹 Loneliness and fewer opportunities to participate in community life

Learning Disability Week is an opportunity to listen, learn, and take action. By promoting inclusion, accessibility, and respect, we can help create a society where people with learning disabilities are valued, heard, and given equal opportunities to thrive.

💙 Diabetes Awareness Week 💙

During Diabetes Awareness Week, we recognise the importance of supporting children and young people with diabetes to stay healthy, safe, and fully engaged in school life.

As a School Nursing Service, we provide training and support to teachers and teaching assistants, giving them the knowledge and confidence to manage pupils' diabetes needs within the school setting.

By equipping school staff with these skills, pupils can receive timely support throughout the school day, helping them to remain in lessons, participate in activities, and enjoy the same opportunities as their peers. This approach promotes independence, reduces the need for direct nursing intervention, and ensures that children and young people can continue their education with minimal disruption.

Together, we can create supportive school environments where every pupil with diabetes can thrive.

💙 Diabetes Awareness Week 8th -14th June 2026 💙

This Diabetes Awareness Week, we're joining the call to .

Millions of people live with diabetes, yet misconceptions and stigma remain. Many individuals face judgement, assumptions, and misunderstandings about their condition, which can affect their confidence, wellbeing, and willingness to seek support.

The reality is that diabetes is a complex condition that requires daily management, commitment, and resilience. No one should feel blamed, excluded, or defined by their diagnosis.

By increasing awareness, challenging myths, and showing understanding, we can help create a more supportive and inclusive society for everyone affected by diabetes.

This week, take a moment to learn more, start a conversation, and help break the stigma surrounding diabetes.
