If your skin has felt tight, dull or just thirsty this summer, a skin booster works differently to your usual moisturiser.

Vivacy Hydromax is a course of fine micro-injections of hyaluronic acid, placed just beneath the surface to replenish hydration from within rather than sitting on top of the skin. The result, over a course of treatments, tends to be a plumper, more even, healthy glow — the kind that holds up well whether you’re heading away or have just come back.

It’s a popular one either side of a holiday: a boost before you go, or some replenishment after sun, travel and air conditioning have taken their toll.

Struggling with reactive, inflamed or dull skin that topicals alone haven’t fixed? The answer might not be on your skin at all.

The gut–skin axis is one of the areas I get asked about most in clinic. An imbalanced gut microbiome can drive the low-grade inflammation that shows up as breakouts, sensitivity and a compromised barrier — which is why I’ll sometimes bring gut-support nutraceuticals like Heliocare’s gut range into a plan alongside topical treatment, not instead of it.

Skin is an output, not just an input. Treat what’s underneath and the outside tends to follow.

Want this looked at properly for you? A Skin Health MOT includes a gut health review — link in bio.
Gut health, but for your skin: The Skin Biotic from AWvi is one of the nutraceuticals I’ve been trialling as part of a proper gut-skin approach.

The idea: support microbial balance and gut barrier integrity from the inside, so there’s less low-grade inflammation showing up as reactivity, breakouts or a compromised barrier on the outside.

Skin is an output. When the gut is settled, the skin usually follows — and this is exactly the kind of thing that gets flagged in a Skin Health MOT.

If your skin has changed this year — drier, thinner, suddenly reactive to products you’ve used for years — there’s a good chance it’s hormonal, not just “ageing”.

Oestrogen supports collagen, hydration and barrier strength. As it declines through perimenopause, skin loses thickness and elasticity faster than at almost any other life stage.

This is exactly why skin gets a proper look in a Skin Health MOT, not treated in isolation — understanding the why changes what actually works.

Has your skin changed and you weren’t sure why? Tell me in the comments.

The three-step system on my own bathroom shelf right now: Gentle Cleanser, Power Serum, Active Cream — AWvi.

I don’t recommend skincare in clinic unless I’ve used it myself, for long enough to know it holds up. What I like here: it’s simple (three steps, not fourteen), it’s formulated around barrier support rather than short-term glow, and it sits alongside professional treatments and actives without irritation.

Skincare is one small part of the picture — but it’s a part worth getting right.

Questions about building a routine that actually suits your skin? Drop them below or DM me.

One of the most useful five minutes in any skin consultation: a proper analysis, not a guess based on how your skin looks under bathroom lighting.

In a Skin Health MOT I look at hydration, barrier strength, pigmentation and early sun damage before recommending anything — because two people with “dry, dull skin” can need completely different plans.

It’s the difference between guessing and actually knowing what your skin needs.

Not glamorous, but this is genuinely part of my routine: a mix of yellow light for calming and red light for collagen synthesis, three times a week for consistent results.

As a GP I spend my days telling patients that consistency beats intensity — so I try to practice what I preach. Neither colour is a miracle on its own, but together, done regularly, they support a calmer, more resilient complexion.

What’s the one skincare habit you never skip? Tell me below.

‘My eyes look tired all the time’ - one of the most common things I hear in consultations - and rarely solved by a single treatment.
This is one client’s real journey, over two years: starting with Ameela polynucleotides (rejuvenate with cannula technique) 2 sessions initially followed by 6 months maintenance. Wrinkle-smoothing injections around the eyes every 4-5months keep fine movement lines soft. More recently a course of 3 x Jalupro young eye treatments with amino acids and hyaluronic acid to improve skin quality and magnify the results of the polynucleotides by providing the building blocks for collagen synthesis and skin rejuvenation.
None of this works in isolation. It’s backed by proper at-home care; lifestyle, diet, targeted supplements and the right skincare, all reviewed as part of her ongoing plan.
This is what the skin MOT leads to - not a quick fix, but a plan that compounds over time.
