๐Ÿšจ Amber Extreme Heat Warning โ€“ Greater Manchester ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

An Amber Heat Health Alert is in place from midnight Wednesday through to Friday.
Hot weather can seriously impact your health, increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, lung problems, and other illnesses.

โš ๏ธ Those most at risk include:

Older people
Babies and young children
People with underlying health conditions

โœ… The good news: many heat-related harms are preventable with simple steps โ€” stay hydrated, keep cool, and check on vulnerable people.

๐ŸŒŠ Stay Safe Around Water This Summer
With warmer weather, more people are visiting open water โ€” but this can be dangerous.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Please share this with young people you know, especially teenage boys who are more likely to take risks.
Key messages:

โš ๏ธ 202 people accidentally drowned in the UK in 2025 โ€“ donโ€™t become a statistic.
โ„๏ธ Jumping into open water can be fatal โ€“ cold water shock kills and hidden hazards lie beneath the surface.
๐Ÿ‘ฅ Encouraging friends to go into the water could have devastating consequences.

๐Ÿ›Ÿ Know what to do in an emergency:
If YOU get into trouble:
โžก๏ธ Float to Live โ€“ lean back, spread your arms and legs, and control your breathing.
If SOMEONE ELSE is in trouble:
โžก๏ธ Phone, Float, Throw

๐Ÿ“ž Call 999 (Fire & Rescue inland / Coastguard at the coast)
๐Ÿง˜ Tell them to stay calm and float on their back
๐Ÿ›Ÿ Throw something that floats to help until help arrives

๐Ÿ’™ Help keep Greater Manchester safe this summer
Talk to young people about the dangers of open water and look out for each other.

โš ๏ธ Measles Is NOT Just a Childhood Illness โ€“ Itโ€™s Serious โš ๏ธ

Measles is often mistaken as a mild disease, but the reality is very different. It is highly contagious and can spread rapidly through communities, especially where vaccination rates are low.

๐Ÿ”ด Why measles is so dangerous:
It spreads through coughing and sneezing and can linger in the air for hours
9 out of 10 unvaccinated people exposed will become infected
It can lead to severe complications such as pneumonia, brain swelling (encephalitis), hearing loss, and even death
Young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems are most at risk

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ The good news:
Measles is preventable. The MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is safe, effective, and provides strong protection.

๐Ÿ’™ Protect yourself and others:
Make sure you and your children are up to date with vaccinations
Be aware of symptoms: high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, followed by a rash
Stay home and seek medical advice if you suspect infection

๐Ÿ“ž Not sure if youโ€™re up to date?
Contact our practice to check your vaccination status or to get booked in โ€” weโ€™re here to help keep you and your family protected.
This isnโ€™t just about individual health โ€” itโ€™s about protecting our communities, especially those who are most vulnerable.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Letโ€™s stay informed, stay protected, and take measles seriously.

๐ŸŒธ New NHS Online Selfโ€‘Assessment Tool ๐ŸŒธ
The NHS has launched a new online self-assessment tool for women who experience a bleed or spotting theyโ€™ve been through the menopause and who are not on HRT.
๐Ÿ“ It's for women in Bury, Salford, Oldham, Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale.
โš ๏ธ Any bleeding from your va**na after the menopause (when your periods have been stopped for 12 months or more) should be checked out to rule out possible womb cancer.
๐Ÿ’ป You can now do this without booking an appointment with a GP.
โœ… Simply answer a few questions on the online self-assessment tool to request a hospital check.
