It’s been a lively week at Kings Manor. We kept active with seated exercises, got competitive with word games and indoor bowling, and explored elephants and everyday proverbs. We also enjoyed making decorative windmills, and Prosecco Day gave us the perfect excuse to mix up some Hugo Spritz cocktails. Cheers to a great week!

Last week we turned our bistro into 'The King's Manor' pub for National Beer Day. We had tabletop pool and a dart board, which our receptionist Aishia and Lynda in admin joined in with. There was a drinks menu to choose from and lots of pub bar snacks including pork scratchings, picked onions and scampi fries!

One of the ladies who live here with us, oversaw proceedings as she was a pub landlady for many years.

It was a very sociable activity with lots of reminiscing about trips to the pub and preferred tipples of choice, while sampling the various beers and lagers on offer. We all raised a glass to celebrate the birthday of Ena who turned 102 on the same day.

We have enjoyed learning about a different cultural event this week. We have learnt all about the Nigerian celebrations for Sango festival and made some traditional red and white beaded bracelets to wear. We even did some drumming to some traditional African music which was a lot of fun.

We took a stroll and enjoyed a local guided tour with our very own Angela, discovering landmarks and buildings and hearing all about Ottery St Mary's rich history.

Angela narrated the poetry stones, as we walked along the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poetry trail.

It was a very informative morning spent outside enjoying lots of fresh air in the sunshine, chatting to some of the locals we passed along the way.

On one of the cooler days last week we took a trip to Exmouth to visit the RNLI Lifeboat Station.

The boat was out on a call but we were able to see the transportation equipment and peak inside the empty station.

Tuesday we had a variety of activities on offer. In the morning some of the men constructed a mechanical marble run, delighted when it actually worked! The afternoon was taken up with baking bread. We found a 'quick' recipe, had fun mixing and shaping the dough and were amazed at how yummy the rolls were - and all done in an hour.

Meet Katie! Having worked at Kings Manor for the past 18 months, Katie has recently completed her Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification.

As a busy mum of two, she brings warmth, dedication, and compassion to her role every day. When she's not caring for our residents, Katie enjoys spending quality time with her family, especially on fun-filled trips to the beach. 😊

It was an almost unanimous conclusion yesterday......hot tea is best!
After sampling two different iced teas for 'Iced Tea Day' everyone who attended our tea tasting session preferred a hot brew!
The activity was a feast for the senses, trying to taste the different ingredients used to make the teas.
We also watched a short video on the portal, teaching us the health benefits of drinking both hot and cold tea.
A fun and informative morning had by all!

There were lots of happy smiley faces at Kings Manor for our first rhythmic drumming session!
All participants said they really enjoyed the session and are looking forward to the next one. It was a very fun way to introduce some More Movement into our activities programme whilst rocking out to some music.
