Yoga with Katie

Yoga with Katie student-centred yoga classes for everyone

I teach in-person yoga and online classes in Oxford.

I also work one-to-one or in small groups, as well as corporate packages. I am currently teaching an online ZOOM gentle vinyasa yoga class once a week for anyone who would like to practice yoga together from wherever they are. I teach regularly at Sunshine Yoga Club, and cover classes for Everybody Studio and Prana Studio in Oxford. If you would like private or smaller group bookings then please do contact me to discuss options.

Hello yoga

Just moving, breathing, noticing.

And doing it alongside other people.

This is actually one of my favourite things about teaching yoga, people practising together. There’s something quite lovely about a room full of people doing their own version of the same thing.

You don't have to be flexible.
You don't have to be experienced.
You don't have to be “good at yoga”.

You can move differently. You can rest. You can wobble. You can change your mind.

You just have to turn up.

This is what my yoga is actually like. Real people, real bodies, ordinary movements

And hopefully a little more connection by the time we leave.

Come and practise with me. 🌿

This video is full of joy for me.

Me and my sister dancing brilliantly (or badly, depending on who you ask), laughing until our stomachs hurt after spending a few hours in the morning setting up a retreat together.

But underneath all of that joy is something a little quieter, or hidden.

I asked my sister for help.

About a year ago, I remember asking her for help for what felt like the first time in ages. Instead of seeing it as a burden, she smiled and thanked me for asking. She told me she was glad I'd let her in, rather than trying to struggle through everything on my own.

That has stayed with me.

So many of us carry the belief that we should be able to do it all ourselves. That asking for help somehow means we've failed. That needing people makes us less capable.

But what if the opposite is true?

What if asking for help is an act of trust?
What if it says, "I know I don't have to carry this alone."

What if it gives someone the gift of being able to show up for you?

This retreat wouldn't have been the same without her. Not because me and Georgie couldn't have done it, but because it was lighter, more joyful and infinitely more fun together.

Maybe that's true of life too.

And perhaps that's what this dancing reminds me of.

Movement is medicine. Laughter is medicine. Love is medicine.

And sometimes the bravest thing we can do is simply say,
"Might you have time to help me?"

Thank you, sister. For reminding me that asking for help isn't weakness.

It's another way of letting love in. ❤️

I see you in class.

I recognise that every person arrives with their own experiences, a different body and a different capacity that day.

I offer space without assuming what you need.

My role isn't to interpret your experience or decide what's best for you. It's to create a learning environment that centres choice, respect, curiosity and care.

I am here to teach yoga.

To create a practice where people have options, where boundaries are respected, and where everyone is invited to participate in ways that feel right for them.

My teaching is informed by the 20h Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) training, a handful of other trauma informed trainings and lived experiance of C-PTSD, alongside ongoing learning about accessibility, inclusion and the many ways people experience their bodies. That learning shapes how I teach, but it doesn't make me a therapist, counsellor or an expert in your lived experience.

I won't assume I know what you're feeling.

I won't assume that stillness, challenge or relaxation look the same for everyone.

I won't step into your space unless you've invited me to.

I trust that you are the expert on your own body.

My role is to offer options rather than expectations. To invite rather than direct. To respect your boundaries as well as my own.

Because yoga doesn't need me to change you.

It offers an opportunity to explore your relationship with movement, breath and yourself in whatever way feels accessible and supportive to you today.

I am here to teach yoga.

And I hope that, through choice, curiosity and respect, the practice meets you where you are not where anyone expects you to be.

Slightly too many things to do. But for the rest of the evening you will find me here.

Not in this wooly jumper, that would be wild today in Ox! I made this at least 2 months ago, today it made it to the feed.

How is everyone?

I don't remember which day it was, but here we are having fun and rocketing (I did get permission with my mat mates to film).

Rocket training was so much fun.

A reminder to those living in bigger bodies, we are strong and can do the things too.

I am really greatful for my amazing body and everything it does for me on and off the mat.
