Barbershop Uncut Stories is coming to Reading in just under 4 weeks!

This October, join us for a free theatre performance opening up conversations about prostate cancer, risk and early diagnosis.

Black men have a higher risk of developing prostate cancer, with 1 in 4 Black men diagnosed during their lifetime.

September is Urology Awareness Month, raising awareness of conditions affecting the urinary system and male reproductive organs, including urological cancers.

This year, The Urology Foundation is encouraging everyone to pay more attention to something we usually flush away without a second thought: our urine. Changes can sometimes provide useful clues about our health.

From September, our bright orange Spot it, Stop it van will be visiting communities across Thames Valley and Swindon, helping people learn more about bowel cancer, the possible signs and symptoms, and NHS bowel cancer screening.

Our friendly team will be on board to answer questions and share information about reducing your risk and what to do if you’re worried about a possible symptom.

Blood Cancer Awareness Month during September

Blood cancers include leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, as well as other types of blood cancer.

Knowing possible signs and symptoms and getting persistent or unexplained changes checked can help lead to an earlier diagnosis.

Today is World Lymphoma Awareness Day.

Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that develops in the lymphatic system. There are many different types, and symptoms can vary from person to person.
Possible signs can include a painless swelling in the neck, armpit or groin, unexplained weight loss, drenching night sweats, itching or persistent tiredness.

Having these symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean you have lymphoma, but if something isn’t normal for you or isn’t going away, speak to your GP.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness of cancers affecting children and young people and the need for research into kinder, more effective treatments.

This year, Children with Cancer UK is highlighting why cancer treatment should fit every child, including the long-term effects treatment can have on children who survive cancer.

Cervical screening is one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer, so it’s important to take up your invitation when it arrives.

If you’ve missed your cervical screening, the NHS may invite you to take an HPV self-test instead. If invited, you can order a kit, take your sample at home or somewhere private, and return it free by post.

You can’t opt in to HPV self-testing – if you’re eligible, the NHS will contact you.
