πŸ΄πŸ’™ Today at Harbour Rise Care Home in Roundham, Paignton, we had a very special visitor β€” The Adventures Of Patrick The Pony ! πŸ’™πŸ΄

Patrick spent time with both our day care visitors and our full-time residents, bringing smiles, comfort, and lots of happy memories along the way. He even visited some residents in their rooms, making sure nobody missed out on the magic of his visit. ✨

Animal therapy can have such a positive impact on wellbeing, helping to reduce anxiety, encourage conversation, and bring comfort and companionship.

For many of our residents, meeting Patrick was especially meaningful as some used to own and care for horses themselves. πŸŽπŸ’ The memories and stories shared today were truly heartwarming.

A huge thank you to Patrick for spreading so much joy throughout Harbour Rise today! πŸ₯°

It has been wonderful to enjoy the few sunny days we've had during the heatwave.

Vitamin D is so important for keeping our bodies healthy and strong. It helps our bodies absorb calcium, which keeps bones and teeth healthy, and it also supports our immune system, muscles, and overall wellbeing. Spending a little safe time in the sunshine is a lovely natural way to help our bodies produce vitamin D and enjoy the fresh air at the same time.

Our residents were able to safely spend time outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. We are very fortunate to have safe outdoor areas for everyone to enjoy.

Keeping our minds sharp at Harbour Rise!

Board games and puzzles are such a positive activity for our residents, encouraging conversation, social connection and plenty of shared smiles. Games like Scrabble and jigsaws help keep minds active and engaged, while games such as dominoes, draughts and Jenga can support concentration, coordination and confidence. Most importantly, they bring people together, creating moments of friendship, fun and companionship in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Harbour Rise hosted its Community Games Group on Tuesday 26th May. It was so lovely to welcome familiar faces and some new ones too, all coming together over a cuppa and a great selection of games β€” with delicious lemon drizzle cake lovingly made by our wonderful cook Di! πŸ‹β˜•

From Jenga and dominoes to Scrabble, jigsaws and draughts, the concentration was on point and the laughter was even better! One of our lovely residents, Rita, said, "I haven't played dominoes in years β€” it was lovely to play again!" πŸ’›

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a warm and enjoyable afternoon. It truly is the highlight of our week having our community come together like this.

We hope to see you all again next time, and remember, you are always welcome to bring along your own favourite game!

Our next Community Games Group will be on Tuesday 30th June, here at Harbour Rise Care Home from 2.30 to 3.30pm. Whether you love a competitive game of Scrabble or simply fancy a chat over tea, cake and a game, we'd love to welcome you! πŸ’›

🌟 Pam Mitchell’s Story 🌟

Pam Mitchell’s story is one of dedication, warmth, and a lifelong commitment to caring for others πŸ’™

Originally from the small village of Butleigh in Somerset, Pam later moved to Totnes where she attended KEVICC school. After continuing her studies through evening classes, she began her career as a stock controller and telex operator at a BMW garage in Paignton.

Pam is a proud mum to four children β€” one daughter and three sons πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ β€” and balanced family life with part-time work, including five years as a hotel receptionist at the Seymour Hotel in Totnes.

After moving to Paignton, Pam found her true calling in care, inspired by the incredible support Rowcroft Hospice gave to her late mother ❀️

In 1991, she began working in a care home in Totnes, followed by 15 years in a nursing home in Paignton. After a brief year at Nortel, Pam continued her journey in care and, in 2016, joined Harbour Rise Care Home β€” where she has now been a valued member of the team for 10 years πŸŽ‰

Pam has mainly worked night shifts πŸŒ™, where her proactive attitude, strong voice in team discussions, and thoughtful contributions have made a lasting impact. She is incredibly well-liked, always flexible when cover is needed, and consistently puts residents and the home first.

Outside of work, Pam loves cooking 🍰 β€” especially her famous flapjacks, Victoria sponge, and coffee and walnut cake. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, getting creative with crafts 🎨, and at Christmas, she makes beautiful wreaths and table decorations πŸŽ„

Pam’s kindness, dedication, and community spirit truly make her one of a kind πŸ’«

This week is Dementia Action Week (18th - 24th May) and here at Harbour Rise Care Home, it's a cause very close to our hearts. πŸ’œ

This year, the Alzheimer's Society is asking everyone to share the story behind their Forget Me Not. Behind every badge is a person, a family, and a story that deserves to be heard. When we all wear it together, it becomes a movement of hope, action, and unity.

Dementia is the UK's biggest killer, and every 3 minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. That's why awareness and early diagnosis matter so much.

Do you have a Forget Me Not story to share? We'd love to hear it in the comments below, and you can also share it directly with the Alzheimer's Society at:

www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-involved/dementia-action-week

Together, we can make dementia the priority it should be. πŸ’œ
