Hello friends and happy new year 🍾 I know I am not alone in saying I am very glad that 2025 is now behind us!

For those of you who are a little woo-woo inclined, 2025 in the Chinese zodiac was the year of the wood snake 🐍 which means that it was a year about wisdom, transformation and cunning with growth, flexibility and creativity. It was about shedding layers (whether you wanted to or not) and making way for what comes next, which is the year of the fire horse 🐎. Technically that doesn't happen until Chinese new year on the 17th of February, but when we get there that year will be about intense energy, bold action, freedom and passion. 🔥 I for one will be glad! 😂

Looking forward with the massage business, it will be a time of review and calibration. As some of you know I launched a non profit in 2023 called Equine Qualifications UK CIC which is all about making equine education more accessible with the aim of improving horse and human welfare and last year was donated Lingfield Equine Distance Learning which now runs under the EQUK umbrella. All of this work does tie into the massage business, but over the next year I will be making some changes to how I work as I have a lot of ideas but I need to see what ones are the most practical. ✨

It has been five years since I started practising massage this year which blows my mind, and I have never stopped learning along the way. One of the principles I launched the business on the foundation of was ensuring my pricing was accessible, but the time has come to raise my prices for 2026, because inflation is real. 🙈

From the 1st of January my prices will be:
👉 £50 for most massage appointments (travel costs incurred outside Edinburgh, mid and East Lothian)
👉 £45 for Shetlands - the dinky discount is always popular!
👉 Five by five discount for group visits - £5 for each horse where I treat five or more horses on the same yard 😎

As some of you know, I've spent the last year working on a new enterprise which is a not for profit organisation that makes equestrian education more accessible.

EQUK is a directory of equestrian education opportunities throughout the UK which reinvests its profits into providing support services to those who wish to work within the sector. It's specifically focused at widening participation to groups who experience barriers to education, but the support is available to anyone, even if you just want someone to chat to about your dreams! ☕

Please like and follow EQUK on your social media platforms of choice and share it with anyone you think is interested in the work I'm doing. 😇 I am particularly looking to connect with education providers and riding schools as the key to success here is developing a collaborative network. 🤝

Equine Qualifications UK CIC is a not for profit social enterprise which improves access to equestrian education by breaking down barriers to participation.

It does this by building a collaborative network of education providers, governing bodies and riding schools throughout the UK which supports learners from all backgrounds.

There has never been a better time in the equestrian industry to highlight why improving access to equestrian education is key to promoting better standards of both horse and human welfare.

Mulligan showing his appreciation for his massage this evening 🫶

Every horse responds differently to massage. Some relax into it right away, some take a few sessions. Some show parasympathetic releases throughout, some do it in a big flurry at the end.

As a massage therapist I have to use what I feel under my hands to judge when an area is “done” but it’s helpful to have a horse like Mulligan who gives me consistent feedback throughout! ☺️

Hello, welcome to my page!

My name is Islay Coppola and I have just completed a two year long Canine Massage Practitioner programme with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre. I am fully insured and a member of the Canine Massage Guild.

In the picture with me are my three dogs (from left to right): Frankie, Maisie & Nala. As you can see I started by getting a black lab and I had to complete the set from there.
Maisie is the inspiration behind me becoming a Canine Massage practitioner, she was diagnosed with arthritis at age 7. I was gutted to begin with, but this turned out to be my silver lining. Maisie’s diagnosis opened up a whole new world of holistic therapies to me as I set out to help her live a full life, whilst managing her condition and helping her to be as comfortable as she could be.
I took her to physio to begin with and this provided a great help to her and from there I soon found canine massage. I was a baker at the time and to be quite frank was miserable, so I decided to enrol on the Canine Massage Practitioner course, quit my job and the rest is history!

Hello 👋

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on social media, because I have been so busy doing my thing, I’ve forgotten to 🙈!

I can’t believe it’s almost three years since I started my massage business, and nearly five since I began my training. I’ve met some incredible people and horses, and feel lucky to have become part of all of your journeys and lives. Time flies when you are having fun and all that!

Thank you to those who have been here since the beginning, and thank you to those who I’ve only met in recent weeks or months.
