🦵 Why Does Your Knee Click? Should You Be Worried?
Have you ever stood up, walked upstairs, or squatted down and heard your knee click or crack?
The good news is that most clicking knees are completely normal.
🔍 Common reasons people will tell you:
• Tendons or ligaments moving over bony structures
• Tiny gas bubbles popping within the joint fluid (similar to cracking your knuckles)
• Normal movement of the kneecap during bending
🚩 When should you get it checked?
If the clicking is accompanied by:
❌ Pain
❌ Swelling
❌ Locking or catching
❌ Giving way
❌ Difficulty fully straightening or bending the knee
❌weakness
These symptoms may indicate an injury that would benefit from a physiotherapy assessment.
Remember, not every noisy joint is a damaged joint. Understanding the difference can save you unnecessary worry and help you seek treatment when it really matters.
At Eastmond Physio & Rehab, we assess the whole picture—not just your symptoms—to identify the cause of your pain and create a treatment plan that gets you back to doing what you enjoy.
