πŸ‘₯ Plymouth People
Breast Cancer support event coming to Plymouth

A community afternoon tea and wellbeing event is set to take place in Plymouth this summer, bringing together local charities, small businesses and support services for a day focused on breast cancer awareness, fundraising and wellbeing.

The event will be held on Saturday 1st August 2026, from 1pm to 5pm, at Plympton Academy.

The event is being organised by Claire Hambly, who is coordinating support from across the local area. The aim is to create a relaxed, welcoming afternoon where visitors can enjoy traditional afternoon tea alongside stalls, information stands and wellbeing workshops, while also accessing support and advice from local organisations.

Funds raised will go to Breast Cancer Now, which funds life-saving research and provides essential information and support services for people affected by breast cancer across the UK.

Alongside the fundraising, the event will feature a mix of community stalls, wellbeing activities and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, with all proceeds going towards the charity.

A key focus of the afternoon has been the creation of 50 wellbeing packs for people currently going through breast cancer treatment or living with and beyond the disease. These include practical and calming items designed to offer comfort throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery, and will be allocated to those currently fighting breast cancer by getting in touch with Claire via the Facebook event "The Breast Tea Ever." Any packs remaining will be donated to the Primrose Foundation.

Local involvement is already building. Sam Maddock, a trustee at the Primrose Foundation who also runs the "Get It Off Your Chest" group, will be supporting a stall, helping to share information and signpost people towards local support services. Judy Gotham, a volunteer with Breast Cancer Now, will also be hosting a stall on behalf of Shine Cancer Support, offering guidance and information for younger adults affected by cancer.

The event has grown beyond all expectations, with more than 30 information and support stalls now confirmed. Organisers say the backing from local and national businesses, bakers, family, friends and individuals has been overwhelming, making the day a true community effort.

Now, the focus is on inviting the public to come along. The event offers a chance for the community to come together to celebrate survivorship, support those who are still undergoing treatment, and remember those who have sadly lost their lives to breast cancer. Above all, organisers hope it will raise awareness of the importance of early detection and treatment, helping others who may face the same journey in the future.

While the focus is breast cancer awareness, organisers are also ensuring support materials are inclusive, with both male and female information and wellbeing packs available.

A huge well done and heartfelt thank you to all of our Breast Care staff who supported the Primrose Plod charity walk across Dartmoor on Saturday πŸ₯Ύ

It was a fantastic day filled with positive conversations, laughter, and great team spirit, with the weather being wonderfully kind to us. Some participants completed just over 9 miles, while others took on the full 18 mile challenge, all helping to raise an incredible amount of money for our local Breast Care charity πŸ‘πŸΌ

A special thank you goes to the amazing Sam, whose hard work and dedication once again made the event such a success. Another brilliantly organised day and a wonderful achievement by everyone involved. Thank you all for your support, enthusiasm, and commitment to making a difference. πŸŒΈπŸ’—

πŸ’™ Thank You, Plymouth Hospitals Charity πŸ’™

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Plymouth Hospitals Charity for generously funding new "vacant" and "engaged" door signs for our breast clinic examination rooms.

These signs help to protect patient privacy and dignity by clearly indicating when rooms are in use, while also supporting the smooth and efficient running of our clinics. This improvement benefits both our patients and staff and helps create a more positive clinic experience for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping us enhance the care we provide. πŸ’™
